Description

The Lib tech Surfboards X Lost Puddle Jumper.

Could surfboard construction Nirvana actually be here?

As surfers we've all dreamed about owning a high performance surfboard with all the positive attributes of a traditional PU board but with none of the inherent fragility that comes with this construction.

Lib Tech are about to change everything you know about surfboards and everything you thought was possible in surfboard construction.

Using 31 brand-new components to the surf industry and calling on 30 years of experience constructing environmentally friendly surfboards, skateboards and snowboards, it was inevitable that Lib Tech were going to produce some remarkable surfboards using this ground breaking, environmentally friendly manufacturing process. Each of the Lib Tech surfboards is handcrafted in the USA with an unwavering focus on building THE toughest high performance surfboards in the world with a commitment to operating in an environmentally responsible manner.

The construction process uses a Nitrogen cell Foam (25-40% recycled content) core for maximum strength and pop. The foam is closed cell, completely waterproof and won't absorb water.
Hexzylon Fibre Foam Skin, this is a smooth, strong, impact and ding resistant layer with the signature Hex pattern.
Next comes the unique Woven Basalt Fibre which is additive free super strong and resists heel dents.
The Bio-Matrix Resin is super strong and environmentally friendly with the best flex qualities of traditional PU and a longer lifespan than Epoxy.

Lib Tech surfboards are fitted with the lightest and toughest fin boxes on the market. They also use Sprock Blocks at the tail to add even more durability to the most fragile areas on the board. Even the leash plug has been given the same attention with 6061 T6 Aircraft aluminium pins and lightweight fibre composite cups.

"Since I first saw Lib Tech’s ECO ISO construction, I wanted to build a board with it. The strength to weight ratio, eco minded materials and techniques, and the fact that this tech was being built in the USA was incredibly interesting to me. I am stoked that the time has finally come and hope people enjoy riding them as we have enjoyed building them." – Matt Biolos

The Lost Puddle jumper surfboard by Matt Biolos. The latest addition to the Domesticated Series. Based on the basic outline of the Bottom Feeder, but with reversed bottom and rocker curves. The Puddle Jumper unlike the previous Domestic surfboards like the RV and Bottom Feeder, features a concave bottom that transitions into Vee out through the tail. The wide template makes wave catching simple and maintain down the line glide and stability. The introduction of the concave increases lift and along with the pronounced rail curve lends itself to top-to-bottom, rail-to-rail surfing. The relatively straight rail line and Vee in the tail keep the board moving forward and able to hold in when executing hard carving manoeuvres. " This is the best small wave board I have ever ridden. I have never made a claim like that about any board before" Matt Biolos.

Amazing board and Incredible customer service
I've only had a chance to take this board out once but it's incredible. I've been looking for board that is a step up from a 6'10 egg and that will work on small waves. From my one outing this seems perfect. Matt and Ian were incredibly helpful overviewing each of the potential boards that I could go for and the fins/bag/leash to select. Can't rate this board, and Boardshop, highlighly enough.

Lost Puddle Jumper 5'8" purchase at the Boardshop warehouse
I recently went down to the Boardshop warehouse to buy a new board and had a few boards in mind that I wanted to pick up. Having surfed and been buying boards for around 30 years, I've bought boards all over the world, from used boards in small Devon surfshops, ex-pro boards in Hawaii, to surfboard megastores in Australia where they have nearly every model in all sizes of all the top brands. I seriously think Boardshop is the best place in the UK to get a board from in my opinion.

Had excellent communication and advise from the team on the phone and upon arrival met Matt, who was happy to show me the full range of boards available. He didn't rush me at all and gave unbiased advise and knowledge about boards that only comes from working in the industry with boards and riders everyday. He understands the surfboard buying process and was a pleasure to have help me through my own decision making process.

I had quite specific requirements but still some vague areas in my mind as to exactly which board would suit me best, but being allowed to pick up the boards and talk in a friendly, unrushed manner meant it was like having a mate (with patience!) there to help you choose. As a result I've ended up with the perfect board for me. The 5'8" Puddle Jumper is exactly what I was looking for and for me (75kg and 5'10") it is the perfect board for UK surf when it's 1-3ft. Hell, with bigger fins and the quad fin set up it'll probably work well in bigger surf too.

I've also previously bought a board online from Boardshop and can also vouch for the delivery service being extremely fast, safe and reliable. On that occasion I also received great advice over the phone before making my decision.

I also got to chat to the legendary Ian who does the board reviews on YouTube! Really nice, down to earth guy who loves talking about all things surfing.

Get One !!
I was looking for a board that would encourage me to get in the water when I would otherwise not bother. I did some research and there was a lot of hype over the Puddle Jumper. I went for the lib tech, not being a fan of epoxy, but with the understanding that it had the durability but wasn’t as corky.
I wasn’t disappointed with the performance of the board, or the construction. The board didn’t feel like an epoxy but is definitely tough. I popped a fin out soon after getting it without a mark on or around the fin box. Performance wise, it absolutely flies. The perfect combination: fast but loose. Being a heavy guy I struggle to ride a short board in waves below stomach high. This was still the case with the PJ, but from stomach high to a bit over head this board is so much fun. Very forgiving and fast down the line and considering the outline surprisingly easy to do re-entries and roundhouse cutbacks. I also like the addition of the wing with the Lib Tech PJ. I felt that this encouraged me to ride the board as a quad benefiting from even more speed, with the wing displacing water flow and loosening up the tail.
After riding a more high performance shape on good days I am now getting rid of the Puddle Jumper and replacing it with an Lost Uber Driver XL. Although the PJ is an excellent board, I want to feel even more performance on average days and push my surfing. Being big, I also get less good waves on the PJ on the really small days, so I’ve just got a Lost Bean Bag to fill that gap.
In summary, this is an awesome board. When I started to ride it I had the ‘this is the best board I’ve ever ridden’ feeling. I have only reluctantly sold it to progress my surfing with a more pointy nosed HP shape. Being heavy, I also want a higher wave count on very small days. In my opinion; if you’re an average surfer or someone coming down from bigger boards, this would be an excellent choice. It would equally suit a good surfer looking for a grovel board to sit below a hybrid / daily driver.
Finally, a note on Boardshop. As you can probably gather from my review, I go through a few boards. My last five boards have been from Boardshop, four of which have been customs. They provide an excellent service and are clearly passionate about what they do.

The right one for now!
Having not taken the advice given to me a number of months ago, I decided that I would return and speak to Ian again and make the decision that I should have made the first time around.
No board is a bad board, and we all have to earn a living, however there is the right board for every surfer at every sttage of his or her progress. I know now that the Lost PJ is the one I need.
I also seeked the advice of my instructor and he said "hands down the PJ at 6.0"
Really looking forward to taking overseas as well, as I KNOW it is right for me to progress.
Would highly recomend the guys at boardshop as they truly do try and get it right.
I think the advantage they have is that the range is vast and can accomodate every need, as opposed to try and shoehorn you into limited availability?
It seems that they dont have to sell you a board, they would like to sell you a board, there is a big difference!
Well done boardshop!

Lib Tech Puddle Jumper Review
Bought a 5'7 last year. Best board I've ever had, paddles well, turns on a dime, I've been able to go vert on my backhand on shoulder high sloppy faced waves. Ridden it a few feet over head in pitching beach break barrels and head high point breaks. Very tough construction too! I landed on it with my knee jumping off Tetrapods and it only put a slight bruise in the deck. I have the peace of mind knowing that if I take off late in the lip and go over the falls the boards gonna be fine. Get one under your feet! The boys at boardshop are great for advice regarding sizing, fin selection etc.

Great board! just get one you won't regret it.
Great board took a few boards away with me and just kept riding this one! Don't normally like new technology but really happy I got one of these. Really strong board I wouldn't drive over it but I used it for 2 weeks and no pressure dings although a few people have snapped these in big surf I'd spoken to. but heavy waves will break any board! I took some hits and was fine and def expected at least one dent! only thing I didn't like was the fin boxes! They work but they should have just gone with future boxes or something. Used fcs fins and just didn't feel like they went in nicely but stayed in fine!

Fantastic fun!
Bought the 5,4 as I'm 6ft but very light (65kg) this board is fantastic, paddles like a longboard but feels like a skateboard once your feet are over the fins. Spent all weekend throwing it around in small junky surf, the right board for the bottom end of the surf quality/size
