The Pyzel Ghost surfboard requires very little introduction since surfing’s golden boy John John Florence piloted one to his second world title and made it his go-to performance step-up board for the juicier, solid conditions he encounters on the tour. The Ghost was one of the best selling surfboards in 2017.

From the shaper
This is the shortboard I (Jon Pyzel) designed with JJF, the surfboard he rode to his second world title in 2017! The Ghost is quite possibly one of the first high performance surfboards that can work for all levels of surfer (seasoned intermediate to pro!) and would be a good option for someone who only wanted to travel with one board if the waves were going to be of decent quality.

The Pyzel Ghost family…the ultimate quiver?
The Pyzel Ghost family of surfboards would make a comprehensive quiver. The legendary Ghost was the first and is probably best known as John John’s career defining shortboard, and the board he rode to his 2017 world title. Next in line is the middle sibling, the Phantom which came about when it was apparent that the Ghost really excelled in shoulder high and above waves and a “step-down” version would be advantageous. Last but not least is the Gremlin; a “chunked-up” small wave wonder stick.
The Pyzel Ghost is a very adaptable shortboard and will thrive in anything from chest high beach breaks right up to double overhead barrelling reefs depending on how you size it. The Ghost can be ridden up to 8” longer and 1/4 to 1/2” wider and 1/8 to 3/8” thicker than your regular shortboard.
The Pyzel Phantom is a brilliant “easy riding” version of the Ghost with a little more volume, a fuller outline with more parallel rails to help maintain speed in less than premium conditions. A great daily driver for the majority of average surfers in average conditions.
The Gremlin still has the same Ghost/Phantom DNA running through it but with a wider outline and lower entry rocker to keep it flowing in slower weaker waves. The Gremlin would also make the ideal next-step or first shortboard for anyone stepping off their larger mini-mal or funboard etc.

It takes a while to understand the board, but when you do, I've done stuff I wasn't able to before. Currently I'm planning to order an 6'2 Ghost to get that extra beef underneath you. Ow and yes it also goes very well if it's a bit smaller as well.
Definitely recommend it as an travel board, pairing that with one of the ghost family shapes (Phantom, Gremlin) you will get an complete quiver with just 2 boards.
I ride an Ghost at 5'11 x 18.88 x 2.38 27.9L
Phantom at 5'9 x 18.75 x 2.28 26.3L
The 6'2 Ghost will be ordered at 6'2 x 18.75 x 2.5 28+ L
I'm 5'9 73kg

First, the service was very good. Fast replies to emails and everything just went through like clockwork.
Only had a few sessions on it but first impression was that it was a lot more user friendly than I was expecting. Surfed it in chest to head high beach break semi clean waves. All the volume up front gets you in early and if you like boards with a pulled in tail then you’ll love this. Holds in through long drawn-out turns but has snap and pivot for the tighter sections.
I went full JJF fanboy mode and rode the Futures JJF Techflex Large (thruster).
This board just feels solid and the sweet spot easy to find and I think it has a lot more to give especially in bigger better waves.
So far I can’t find any faults so it gets 5 stars from me.

find enclosed a brief first review:
"Custom order Ghost, 6'3 x 20 x 2 3/4, slightly widened template compared to stock dims. Custom spray, grey with partial black rail line in standard
4 OZ PU construction.
Absolute beauty ! 6 weeks return time from first order to my doorstep, pristine as always, no hassle, great advice, and arrived now just in time for summer escape.
Nice rocker, slightly staged with medium entry and tail exit rocker and low to medium in between; nice rails, a bit domed but not super low/sensitive.
Single concave with increasing double just after center.
Looks like a very user friendly board to me, nothing too extreme, very balanced. Nice foam under the chest without ever becoming bulky (unlike other midpoint forward shapes, think a Lost Rock up or Rusty Slayer), still shortboard-like with a little extra.
The rounded pintail with the tail rocker surely won't do it in absolute junk or waves below stomach high, but I am really looking forward to taking it out in better stuff soon, guess it will be great in OH stuff without slowing too much on a softer shoulder.
Overall price was great including the extra spray job and customizing (+10%), so for me there is no reason whatsoever not to go custom if you can wait those 6 weeks.
Will report once I had it in the water, comparing it to my other (mainly
FireWire) boards. Stoked ! "
