Boardshop are proud to be stocking Pukas Surfboards. Pukas are a surfboard manufacturer that started off in the '70s in Cantabria, Spain. The name Pukas is chosen in honour of the famous Hawaiian necklaces. The necklaces were made of small shells with holes in the middle eroded away by the salt water, which were often sold by surfers in order to pay for their surf trips. 'Puka', in the native Hawaiian language, means 'hole', which in turn has a symbolic meaning understood by all surfers: the tube.

Pukas have really made a name for themself in the surfing world. Every year, more and more WQS and WCT riders visit the Pukas factory to order boards for the contests that take place in Europe between August and October, including team surfers like Gabriel Medina, Tiago Pires and Justin Mujica, to name a few - they all feel confident riding Pukas boards. In 2000, Sunny Garcia won the ASP World Championship title riding Pukas surfboards. He also won the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing in 2000 and 2004, breaking the previous victory record on the circuit with six. It's a fact that Pukas have the credentials to make a quality board.

First to arrive to Boardshop out of the Pukas quiver is Gabriel Medina's 'The Game'. Designed and shaped by Pukas' official shaper Johnny Cabianca, 'The Game' is intended to be your favourite beachy board, in which its flatter, wider rocker and extra volume are the key features that stand out. It also features a classic single-to-double concave with a 'V' ending, resulting in a fast board that is super easy to turn and perform on. We recommend using it with medium to small fins, and when ordering one for yourself downsize it 4 inches from your average shortboard.

This is the kind of board you want to be riding when the waves are small, plus it's really responsive and fun when it gets up to overhead conditions. The first ever 'The Game' was tested by Gabriel Medina in a beachbreak close to Ericeira, Portugal. His feedback was simple: "the board flys". Waves were small and slow, typical beachbreak conditions and Gabriel loved it. Check out the video.
