Description

Any day we get a new Tomo model in the shop is a great day! Today is one of those days, ladies and gentlemen the Firewire Neutrino has landed. Trademark Tomo, just look at it, you know you want to surf it!

The Firewire x Tomo Neutrino in the Ibolic tech is fundamentally a groveler for waves up to shoulder/head high, the reality of that for a lot of surfers is that its a board you can use most of the time. It looks fast, feels fast to surf and is just crying out to be put through its paces. We've had a demo for a couple of months and everyone here has been fighting over who gets to surf it!

The Neutrino has a hint of the old Nano that Tomo made back in the day but its far more user friendly than that board. It features Tomo's MPH (mono plaining hull) set up which if you've ever surfed a Tomo you'll know delivers speed in spades. The parallel outline and fullish nose delivers excellent wave catching ability and as with a lot of his models means that you can ride it short. Riding the board shorter makes for less swing weight through turns which in theory means your turns can be snappier and faster which in turn helps maintain speed. One thing we noticed when surfing it is that as soon as you pop up the board has instant glide and builds speed fast making it feel stable underfoot. That chop tail isn't the most beautiful thing on earth but it is effective in reducing drag and also delivering quick release for turns. Its good for airs too apparently...

The nose and tail profile and overall rocker line work in tandem with the MPH concave. The rocker through the tail is fairly gentle, it starts a quarter of the way up the board from the tail, the nose rocker is similar but there is a definite flip at the end. Fin wise we surfed it with the Firewire velox thruster set, worked fine.

Tomo boards are not for everyone (although everyone should try one at some point) but the Neutrino is a return to form for average surfers in everyday waves, its fast and fun and goes in anything.

Ibolic construction is a leap forward in surfboard manufacturing with the best elements of LFT and Helium combined. This Patent Pending technology is built into the core blank construction to create preloaded structural flex together with structure strength and durability. The FRK+ has Fibre Reinforced I-Beam high density foam stringer down the centre with Parabolic Rail Springers from nose to tail. There are three independent points for flex control and break resistance. I-Beam ensures firmness underfoot and unparalleled strength. The two Parabolic Rail Springers enable even flex and give great recoil through your turns. I-BOLIC Technology is an engineering feat that builds performance into the core of the surfboard there are no external carbon layups or heavy laminations with this cracking tech. What this all means is that get a board that is stronger than a helium board and has the feel of an LFT with even faster recoil, this tech is really nicely weighted too- you'll surfer faster and harder all in the knowledge that the Ibolic tech is Firewire's toughest yet.

Firewire surfboards are more durable than other surfboard manufacturing processes; Firewire is pushing the limits of applying new technology and innovation to surfboard design and always has an eye on the environmental impact of what they do, they truly are different to the other board companies out there. Firewire have come a long way since the early boards and the range of shapes and tech just gets better and better. A big chunk of the boards in the range are perfectly suited to the waves that 90% of us surf on a regular basis so if you haven't already give them a try.

The staff here have surfed pretty much every surfboard in the Firewire range at some time or another and we speak to surfers from all over the world and get their feedback on how the boards perform in all sorts of conditions so we're well placed to talk about all aspects of Firewire surfboards. We're happy to consider trading in your old board against a new Firewire, so If you have any questions about this we'd be delighted to answer them and advise on any potential board choices or enquiries you might have, just drop us an email to [email protected] or call us on 0044 (0) 1243 674250.

Made with I-Bolic 2.0 Tech

I-Bolic 2.0 Technology uses an I-beam style core with flex tuned at the rails through high-density foam – a precision design built purely for performance. The updated construction keeps the trademark speed, control, strength, and response of the original I-Bolic, but now adds extra durability thanks to a fully engineered carbon strip inlay on the bottom deck, plus a refined new look.

Neutrino
Having surfed the best board I've ever owned last winter, the Revo Max, which is so complete and unique, I find myself with another gem under my feet. Neutrino also has an incomparable glide down the line, which allows you to always be ahead of the next section. Then, in terms of turns, it's both a fish and a shortboard (and a step-up for the Revo Max). The drive can be soft or aggressive; it's always super fluid and seems much simpler. I found it amazing in twin + trailer (Endorfin). Ultra speed and a ride on the rail that I've never felt before. I think wide tails plays a big part in this, because that feeling already exists on the Revo Max The thrusters give it verticality and a rail-to-rail ride that's closer to a shortboard. I've owned Sci Fi, Cymatic, El Tomo Fish, Hydroshort, and Hydronaut, and most of these boards have greatly changed my surfing style, and the end of my career is a joy to behold with such gems
