The LoveMachine FM Surfboard is a high-performance mid-length from Ryan Lovelace, built for speed, power, and flow. With its twinzer setup and deep channel bottom, it offers drive, hold and surprising manoeuvrability. Designed to handle small days and proper surf alike, it bridges the gap between glider and shortboard. If you want a mid-length that turns hard, paddles fast and doesn’t hold back, this is it.

From the shaper - Ryan Lovelace

The deep channel through the fins acts like a turbocharger, while the twin + nubster fin setup offers looseness with just the right amount of control. The board holds an edge through power turns, rolls onto rail with ease, and generates speed with minimal effort.

What We Like

It’s a mid-length… but different:
The FM doesn’t just cruise. It flies. The deeper concaves, hard rails, and responsive tail rocker mean you can surf this board like a shortboard, just with a bigger engine underneath you.

Built by surfers, for surfers:
Lovelace’s boards are functional art. Every FM is hand-shaped with attention to detail and dialled in for performance. The glassing is tough, 6oz bottom and 6+4oz deck, making it as durable as it is beautiful.

Twin + Nubster Setup:
You get that signature twin fin speed and looseness, with the added hold and pivot from the small trailer. It’s a combo that works in almost anything.

Size is your friend:
Don’t be afraid of length, the FM surfs shorter than it looks. You get all the benefits of paddle power and glide without sacrificing performance.

Sizing the LoveMachine FM

Choosing the right size FM depends on what you want it to do:

For more performance: Size down (6'6–7’0). These lengths are perfect for shortboarders looking for something looser but with more foam.

For more glide and flow: Size up (7'4 and above). These feel closer to a single fin log, with huge paddle power and smooth lines.

All-round feel: The 6’9–7’2 range is the sweet spot for a bit of everything, carves, control, and cruisey glide.

Boom.
Having flapped about on a groveller and not really felt it, I got in touch with BoardShop about south coast waves and old man shoulders while looking to up the fun and carve. The FM was recommended and it is a really good board. Weirdly for my neck of the woods it has been overhead both times I've been out. The first in a howling onshore, the FM got me into a wave early and held the rail really well. The second time in clean conditions, the board was brilliant. Even had a Gerry Lopez moment (in my own mind anyway). Once I'd started trusting the board, late-ish drops were smooth, the board holds a really good line and carves are smooth. Paddling is a dream. The FM has stuck a smile on my face, a really good shout by the BoardShop crew. I'm super stoked about the next surf!

I had not seen any in hand, the concaves are tremendous, a very fast board, a very well made and well finished board

Awesome and then some!
I recently borrowed a mates 6'9 FM. For a bit of context I've been riding Simon Jones MOTE boars for the last 8 years, pre-Torren, and in the last 5 years have a 6'6 Fiji and 7'2 Massive. A while ago I was listening to a podcast with Torren and he mention that Si got the idea for the Massive from an American surfer who was cycling around Oz with a one board quiver. The guy was Simon Murdoch, who rides Ryan's boards and specifically the FM. So after having ridden the Fiji and Massive for the last 5 years I was looking for a replacement. I also drove over my Massive last year by accident (head in hands). I was just about to go out to Morocco for a solid west swell and have been missing my 7'2, so bought this a few days before and picked it up enroute. Needless to say I am so gald I did and I can hand on heart say that having surfed for 20+ years this board scored me some of the best waves I've had in my life. It's like the Massive but with way more beans and pazazz. I'm very keen for a 6'6 now. I also surf Porthleven and the beaches in Cornwall so know that this board is going to excel down here. Thanks heaps to the kind guys at Board Shop for making this all so smooth and especially the phone call follow up just to make sure all was well. I also got the Ryan Lovelace True Ames Twinzer fins for this, which are obviously are match made perfect!

It’s not just about the products
So I bought a lost 7’6 crowd killer, surfed it and although a great board a bit too big for me. Boardshop were awesome and supported me with the ride out return policy.
So after lots of research and grinding of teeth I’ve gone for the FM, it looks awesome and is an in between ride for my quiver. Took it out in some small summer magic and it was awesome easy to catch and super responsive, a much better option for me than the lost. So I can’t thank ian and the team for their flexibility!

Fantastic M
Great-looking board! I was initially concerned about the overseas delivery, but it ended up being fast, and the team was incredibly helpful in finding the best shipping option for me. They always responded promptly and were very supportive. The board was well-packed and looks fantastic, thanks to their advice. I'm looking forward to getting the fins and having fun in the water!

If you've got a need for speed
I always love a fast board so super stoked with the love machine fm. I've tried a few mid-lengths recently and this is definitely my favourite. Especially for getting down the line on bigger waves. I like that I can throw it around too like my short boards. My only criticism is that it dings quite easily not the most robust construction. Thanks Ian for recommending, you've always got time for every customer, which is greatly appreciated.

Good all-rounder, speed machine
I bought the 6’6 as I’m mostly used to short boards around 30-32litres and wanted something for the bigger days in Portugal, and just generally more volume for wave count. Was scared I wouldn't be able to duck dive it but it’s actually ok. The board is light and feels smaller than its 41 litres. I’ve surfed it now in quite heave Atlantic beach break and it handles well. Very easy to get into waves, down the line like a speed demon and stable on some choppy faces. The only thing I need to get used to is to move my feet around a bit as if you want to do sharper turns you need to move your back foot further back in order to pivot. So, some shuffling around required but when you get that dialled it’s a great board. Super happy and there are always folks who are curious about and want to talk about this board down the beach :)

Epic alternative Board
Surfing in France , 42 years old and 86kg I bought the 6’9 love machine FM.
Ride it in Winter Swells 5/6ft and Board felt incredibly responsive and livelly like a Magic Carpet litterally flying over the sections with lot of speed and drive
The Board feels very light under your feet, like a shortboard and turns very well with increase speed delivered by this special shape
You dont feel the lenght of the board with the rails very well designed and the channel giving you extra speed
I felt the board is reliable even in Bigger staff with good hold in Punchy Waves
Thats not a longboard it needs some little push to handle but the feeling surfing this board is something I Never experiment before in my 10 years surf Background.
Definitly recommand , this machine will give you another level surfing expérience and smile

Great service
Unfortunately I cannot say much about the board yet besides it is beautiful. No waves for weeks in this part of the world. Due to some injuries and age, almost 40, I final decided to buy something different FM 6.9. I normally surf shortboards 5.5 to 5.10 range with no more than 31 litters, so this was a new world for me. I reach out to a couple of shops asking for advice and boardshop (Charlie) took the time to answer all my questions and doubts, with enough confidence to say that one of my initial options was not a good fit, I appreciate the honesty. I was in doubt since I don't live in UK, but the deliver took less than a week and the customs process was really straightforward.

The BEST Surfboard Ever ?!
Before pulling the trigger, I had been looking at the Love Machine stuff for ages, undecided what model to go for, what size to go for and where could it fit in my quiver. Luckily I had the chance to see an FM in person and get it under my arm, holy moly it felt amazing, well balanced board with features which just make think how does this even work? After a little more research and self justification, I pulled the trigger on the 6' 9. I'm so happy I did, genuinely the best board I've ever surfed, everything fell into place, felt easy to paddle, stable on the pop up and instant speed. It's become my most ridden board in a huge range of conditions, I'm on the South Coast so waves aren't really a thing, but the board handles 2ft slop with no issues, and of course thrives in good waves. After countless sessions and figuring out the dynamic of the board, I LOVE it in those chunky shoulder high days. It really is a board which can be surfed however you want, I can only say great things about this board and highly recommend it. Boys at Boardshop are top tier for their advice and services, if you're unsure about sizing or whether it is the right board for you, hit them up and they'll be more than happy to assit.

Excellence
Not often as a client you get to be so sure you're getting the “real deal” as with the Boardshop team. They make you feel like a homie, like a mate, like someone who deserves to be taken care of.
Got a couple of 6'6s ( one hybrid flax deck fiberglass bottom) and a 6'9.
Today just arrived this 7'8 beauty and my new 7'0.
I've surf the 7'8 before ( borrowed) and it handles so well that I pulled the trigger.
Despite how well the board was packed it arrived damaged . We all know how well courier companies treat parcels but accidents do happen.
However and paramount has been Boardshop response " Don't worry we'll sort it out" and I know they will.
Thanks Team for the support.
