Paul Lefevre is the man behind the Son of Cobra story, we first met him maybe 6 or 7 years ago at the Olatu factory in the Basque country.

Paul and his mate were tucked away at the back of the factory doing crazy spray and resin jobs on any boards they could get their hands on.

Their work was jaw droppingly good and it's no surprise that they soon moved on to bigger things.

Paul Lefevre Shaping

Son Of Cobra surfboards are now a firm favourite at Boardshop, and judging by the demand they hit the spot with you lot too!

Based in Costa Mesa, California his journey has taken him to producing some of the most aesthetically pleasing boards on earth, and they surf good too!

Paul works the whole board range form shortboards through mid lengths to longboards.

There is not one board in the range you wouldn’t want to ride! There are colabs with mentor Matt Biolos, notably the Cobra Killer with the promise of more to come.

There is also the Son of Cobra fin range from Futures specifically designed for his range of boards.

Lets start with his shortboards, the Son Of Cobra Round Twin, Round Twin V2, Rocket Twin, Classic Twin and Cobra Killer gives you a pretty good idea of what he likes, he likes twins! There is also a single fin, a mid length and a longboard.

ROUND TWIN

The ROUND TWIN is Son Of Cobra’s signature model. The modern twin fin works to provide a unique line for critical pocket surfing by adding some retro twists. This unique double concave exhibits its best point in the concave closest to the rail line. The high volume line is well balanced and the low entry rocker makes this board ride really fast and turn tight. It’s a true wave catching machine.

ROUND TWIN V2

Based on the regular ROUND TWIN, the V2 features a narrower template with lower rails and a bit more rocker to give you better performance on bigger days. Both come with Futures boxes due to the complex bottom shape and deep concaves.

The new Futures x Son Of Cobra twin fins are highly recommended.

ROCKET TWIN

The ROCKET TWIN loves to draw long, sharp and fast curves. The double concave, low rails, straight fish tail combined with the 4 speed channels keep the board moving forward and hold tight during hard carving manoeuvres. This is your high performance twin choice.

Like the ROUND TWIN, the ROCKET TWIN comes with Futures boxes due to the complex bottom shape and deep concaves. The new Futures x Son Of Cobra twin fins are highly recommended.

CLASSIC TWIN

This is a modern version of the legendary Twin Keel with its performance qualities updated. This board has a single concave with a deepest point between the fins and a very low entry rocker, the extra lift on the tail makes backside turns more manageable.

With its generous volume line the CLASSIC TWIN is super reliable daily Twinny and is a great small wave catcher.

COBRA KILLER

Son Of Cobra Cobra Killer

The COBRA KILLER is first and foremost, a Post Modern Twin-fin.  Designed around Paul’s unique, and exceedingly deep, double concave bottom. It really piqued my interest to pair it with one of Losts' proven models.  Lost effectively merged his bottom contours into the outline, foil, rails and primary rocker of the time tested Quiver Killer.  Thus, the name “COBRA KILLER”.  Due to the relatively pulled in, rounded pin, being paired with the deep concave behind the fins, the COBRA KILLER needs no trailer fin, and is built exclusively as a Twin.

Dims range from 5ft 2 - 6ft 4

SINGLE FIN

Inspired by the late 70’s single fin with a modern spin. The SINGLE FIN has generous volume lines and medium rails added to the light concave and Vee after the fin, give you a perfect balance of glide, speed, maneuvrability and responsiveness.

This model is also available with an optional 6 channels bottom for more drive and speed during clean days.

  • 6ft 4 - 40 Litres
  • 6ft 6 - 43 Litres

MID LENGTH

Son of Cobra Mid Length

The MID-LENGTH fills the gap between longboard and shortboard. It allows for easy paddling to catch tons of waves on smaller days and get in earlier on bigger days. It’s the most popular and versatile board, for all types of surf, from entry level to advanced surfer. This is the must-have board in your quiver.

Dims:

  • 7ft 2 - 47 Litres
  • 7ft 4 - 48 Litres
  • 7ft 6 - 52 Litres
  • 7ft 8 - 53 Litres
  • 7ft 10 - 57 Litres
  • 8ft 0 - 58 Litres

NOSERIDER

Based off a late 60’s, transition era outline, our NOSERIDER combines classic and contemporary with the wide point set back from centre and the rails foiled thin. The wide, set back hips and thin foil make this model responsive and spunky when surfing it off the back. A contemporary nose concave fits well with the boards thin foil, providing added stability for long nose rides that can hold through less than perfect condition without disrupting its trimability.

This log trims fast, pivots well off the tail, and exhibits stable nose rides.
