Description

The Sharp Eye Modern 2.5 is the latest incarnation of the original Modern 2; tweaked with a modern 'bump-wing' and a set of 'Bonzer' style concaves which sit in front of the fins. The Modern 2.5 uses the same cutting edge Fusion 2 technology as it's predecessor and enjoys the same 'electric' feel when engaging the fins and powering off the bottom.

The 2.5 is designed to be ridden as a thruster or a quad, this fin setup along with the tail and bottom contours adds drive and carving ability in better quality waves while still keeping the brilliant fast paddling and small wave ability of the original Modern 2.

The original Modern 2 was a mash-up of the legendary Mark Richards twin of the 80's and a performance swallow tail thruster of today and while the 2.5 retains all of this small wave grin-factor it definitely has a little more scope to perform in slightly bigger and better quality waves where the original M2 might not have quite the composure of this upgraded M2.5.

Head shaper and Sharp Eye founder Marcio Zouvi has developed the M2 and M2.5 for the less than cover-shot summer waves in California, but in reality both would work here in the UK and Europe year round in our less punchy and generally smaller conditions.

The Modern 2.5 would make a great 'go-to' everyday shortboard for the average but competent surfer in anything from thigh-high to head high and a little over. The Sharpeye 2.5 would make a great travel companion if like me you rarely venture out in anything too challenging and would be great as part of a travelling quiver when paired with a step-up for the bigger days should they present.

Fusion E2 construction is very exciting indeed and definitely adds some performance to an already lively surfboard. The new Fusion E2 construction is built around a stringerless EPS blank with exclusive carbon strips added to both the deck and bottom adding strength and brilliant flex memory for the boards lifespan. The carbon strip on the deck has a small gap running the length which has virtually eliminated any 'chatter' sometimes associated with EPS boards. The deck is glassed with a 4oz glassing topped with a layer of 4oz biax to be light and strong. The bottom is glassed with a single layer of 6oz.

This is a gem of a board which you can customize with some different fin choices. The Modern 2.5 benefits from a five-fin setup so you can turbo-charge your performance in smaller waves with a quad set and add a little control and stability in larger waves with a thruster set or even a 2+1 should you fancy.

Sharpeye surfboards deliver the perfect blend of modern performance shapes and the very best technological advances in surfboard manufacture; a tech which is light, durable (not bulletproof) which injects life particularly into boards which excel in smaller conditions.

We're genuinely stoked to be stocking these Sharp Eye surfboards and very excited about Fusion E2 technology which we think is another significant stride towards the perfect balance of performance and durability with an eye on environmental impact.

We're happy to consider taking your old or unwanted board as a trade-in against a new Sharp Eye surfboard, so If you have any questions about this we'd be delighted to answer them and advise on any potential board choices or enquiries you might have, just drop us an email to [email protected] or call us on 0044 (0) 1243 674250.

Great board
I've had 6 surf's on this board now, from a really soft beach break to an overheard reef and it's a great board, maybe the best board I've ever had. The most noticeable thing is the acceleration through turns which seems to come out of nowhere. The only downside I've found is it is a bit hard to hold down when there's chop coming up the face, I think because it weighs practically nothing. I haven't surfed it in really bad waves but it floats really nicely so I feel like it would go ok. I agonised about whether to get this board or another but I'm really glad I chose it. I had really good advice from Boardshop on the phone.
