Just incredible
I bought one of these 2 weeks ago after having a really fustrating surf I was getting so annoyed in a crowed line up not getting into waves and not enjoying surfing a short board so after 2 phone calls with Ian I settled on a 6'8 I weigh 84kg and normally surf East Coast of England so our waves are not the best I have since surfed this board in all types of waves and I could not be more happy in over head clean waves it felt so good fast flowing carves but step on the tail and you can still hit the lip in waist high waves it was super smooth it paddles like a dream getting me into waves early and easly maintain speed and flow I even paddled out one day on some onshore really messy shoulder high waves more to just get in the water but was amazed at how well the board did just seems like there is nothing this board won't do so I have now sold all my other boards as I just know already I am never going to take them out over this and bought my self a new long board that way when I get to the beach I have very easy desicion to make under waist high I am going out on the long board any thing else I am out on this. Massive thanks to ian for his advice after trying loads of different boards over the last 2 years I have finally found the one and could not be happier

Wow
Great first experience of Boardshop! The buying process was easy, even during these strange times. Had some good advice from Matt and my new OBE 7’2” arrived intact wrapped in a cocoon of bubble wrap and cardboard. Finally got some waves after an interminably long flat spell.
I surfed on two consecutive days in crowded, average 2-3ft waves. The board lives up to its billing! It is a fast paddler, so you get loads of waves and it is light and responsive to surf.
On Matt’s advice I fitted it with two FCS II NEO Glass performer quad rears and a 7” FCS II PC Connect rear fin. Having started with the rear fin in the centre of the box I moved it right forward and felt this was best for the conditions. Very impressed and I look forward to getting out in some bigger surf.

Mark Phipps OBE 6'10 4+1
I'm wary of writing surfboard reviews for a few reasons. They are unavoidably subjective, inevitably they contain an element of confirmation bias and most importantly I don't believe I know enough about the nuances of board building and riding to advise a prospective purchaser on how to spend their hard earned cash. That being said...every bit of hype you've heard, watched or read about this board is probably true. It GOES!

Feel like I’ve progressed my surfing more this morning than in the whole of last year.
Hey Matt and Dave,
Surfed my new One Bad Egg today over here in Ireland - so happy with it! Particularly on my back hand, the speed and control is insane. Feel like I’ve progressed my surfing more this morning than in the whole of last year. Also had a few comments on my surfing/board which has never happened before.
Thanks for the advice on fins too - they feel perfect.
Have a good Christmas!

Took my 7'10"OBG for its first surf today in less than ideal conditions for the type of board, but good enough to get a feel for the potential. The board felt refined, sensitive and very fast. Overall a quality product. Mark replied to a question regarding fins overnight!

7'6 One bad egg
Matthew advised me to go for the 7'6 as Im 17 stone and what fins to order. Surfed the board in waist high clean conditions but did not get on with the board, found it hard to paddle into waves and once up it seemed to lack drive to make the section. Second surf in slightly above waist clean waves , felt I had better paddling speed after I adjusted my position on the board. More paddle speed meant more waves and started to feel the performance in the board as its narrower and thinner than anything I've surfed before!!
Third surf was today in head high with the odd bigger set and clean again, the board flew!!! Paddling into waves before the short boarders ,much better paddle speed, good speed down the face and even managed a few back hand turns! Definitely felt that the board was living up to the reviews by the guys at Boardshop. Thanks Matthew for the advice on the size and fins , will be keeping the board for surf which is head high + as it came alive in these conditions. Also it duck dives like a dream !!!

Outstanding surfboard
Within half an hour of surfing this board, I was already thinking of selling some/all my other boards. It catches waves like a longboard and rides like a short board. I haven’t been this excited about surfing in years!

Thanks to Boardshop.
Great company,
My board arrived Thursday and I have to say it looked amazing.
I had it in the water Friday and it was so much fun to surf.

7'0" phipps one bad egg
At 49yrs and weighing 88kg I have finally taken the plunge and gone for a mid length. A bit of my background I've surfed the north coast of Cornwall and indo on and off for the last 35 years, and surf to a good standard. I usually surf a pyzel slab 6'2" or a Slater omni 6'2". The slab is a fantastic board to ride but I'm now finding it hard to compete in the line up,the omni has solved this and I am able to catch plenty of waves especially in clean hollow conditions. However on mushy days or larger slower waves 6'+ I find it a bit skitty on the bottom turns. I have now managed to surf the OBE 3 times in both 5' glass and slow 3' waves. So far so good ,in good quality 5' surf this board absolutely flies and is easy to turn tightly if your rear foot is over the fins (I'm using large reactors and a 6.5" kai Sallis centre fin) .It is going to take a while to get used to physically moving on the board rather than just transferring my weight as is to be expected. From what little I have used this board I know it is gonna come alive in the 6-10foot surf range and will hold the deepest of bottom turns!!! The jury is still out on the smaller mushier surf, but I have a feeling it's more my style of surfing rather than the board!! Thanks to the guys at boardshop for their help in sizing I was gonna go 6'10" but so pleased I didn't as you would never know the length of this board when you get your positioning right on it which will become second nature after a while.I found I was able to catch waves ealy enough to be up and riding before people even inside of me. Board arrived promptly and was very well packed. As for the board finish it is superb .I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't live in Newquay lol.

6'8" OBE - cracking board!
Had the board for 3 weeks now and for once I managed to coincide buying a new stick with a great run of swell. The board arrived at lunchtime and was in the sea by 5pm! Since then I've surfed it almost every day, sometimes twice a day, so I've had a chance to give it a fair go in a variety of conditions.

For context, I'm 49, 6ft, 73kg, have surfed for the best part of 35 years and am lucky enough to have a decent beach break 3 mins walk from my front door. I've only ever surfed shortboards, so buying a 6'8" egg was a bit of a leap of faith. Prior to buying this I was mostly surfing a 5'8" 33L Puddle Jumper RP (which I absolutely love).

First impressions were that it is a lot sleeker than I was expecting. Under the arm it feels more like a step up board than some kind of shrunken longboard and the rails don't feel at all boxy. The finish is immaculate and the glassing is reassuringly solid.

As soon as I got into the water the speed of paddling became apparent and I was very pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to duck dive. First session it was head high and offshore and after a few waves of feeling it out I started to really enjoy the board. Coming from years of surfing shortboards I had to alter my approach a bit to relax and not thrash about so much. You just put the board into the right part of the wave and let it do its thing. That's not to say that you can't still smash a lip or do a nice tight cutty when the time is right.

The ability to catch waves is incredible, you're not quite out there with the 9ft brigade, but you can get in way earlier than the shortboarders. My wave count went through the roof! Being able to get in earlier and the ability to really fly through sections has meant that I've been having much longer rides as well. No real issues surfing either front or backhand, but I look forward to learning how to get the most out of what is quite a different board than anything I've previously owned.

Initially I set it up with a 6.5" FCS Kai Sallas centre fin and medium Performers in the sides. I had a few surfs using these, but it felt like there was too much fin, so I got a set of Carver Quad Rear/Side Bytes and this loosened things up nicely. I have the centre fin as far back as possible.

Overall, I'm stoked with my purchase. The board is happy to just cruise along, trimming down the line like a longboard with a few cheater 5's thrown in, or to be surfed in a more aggressive, involved manner. It is very versatile and would suit a wide variety of surfers & conditions. As far as wave size goes it's equally at home in knee high peelers as decent head high conditions, and it feels like it would be happy charging in much bigger. I'm not quite ready to get rid of my shorter boards, but this board makes a pretty good case for a one board quiver and would be an excellent travel companion.

If you’re like me and the frothing grom in your head no longer bares any resemblance to your physical form, would appreciate a paddling boost without sacrificing too much manoeuvrability, or just fancy something a bit different, the One Bad Egg should definitely be on your shortlist.

Had no need to put customer service to the test, but the board arrived well packaged and communication was friendly, ample and clear. Wouldn't hesitate to buy from Boardshop in the future. Cheers!
