Description

The Lost Surfboards RNF 96 (Round Nose Fish) is in our opinion one of the greatest game changing boards of recent times. Its part Fish, part hybrid, part shortboard...but most importantly its a huge amount of fun to surf. The Lightspeed epoxy construction elevates this magic board to whole new level.

The RNF 96 is based on the original version from 1996, hence the name, Matt Biolos has taken that board and tweaked and updated to give it more performance without sacrificing any of features that made it such a smash hit back in the day. The most obvious feature is the pulled in tail, this narrow tail with slight hip created a board that would execute much tighter turns whilst still carrying the speed. The single to double concave creates lift and therefore speed, the board paddles so well even in poor conditions to ensure you can compete in our ever more crowded line ups. The RNF 96 is the small to medium wave board you've been looking for, speedy, rail to rail surfing in a wide variety of conditions.

The fin set up is a thruster, you can of course surf it as a standard thruster, it works ok especially in better waves but the board is really designed to be surfed as a 2 + 1, any 2 + 1 set is the go too fin to get the most out of the board.

Who is this board for? I hear you ask. Well, anyone who has become addicted to the speed and freedom of twin fin surfing and wants to take this feeling, with more control and stability, into better conditions. Or if you want a lightning-fast hybrid surfboard that will do anything in standard day to day surf then this is for you. Size at your standard volume you will fall in love with this little board. Minimalist logos finish the board beautifully!

Lightspeed technology is Lost's proprietary surfboard construction built with lightweight EPS foam and high strength epoxy resin. LightSpeed uses a combination of Rapid-Reflex Carbon Fibre as well vibration dampening Innegra-Fibers which are woven into high quality performance fiberglass cloth. Like the name implies, LightSpeed is both light and exceptionally fast to surf, reminiscent of Lost's Carbon Wrap tech but better! This tech gives faster response to your turns and so has a more snappy feel, basically you come out of your turns faster and keep that speed. It works in a good range of shortboards from higher volume grovel type boards through to more performance based shortboards. The LightSpeed tech is a step forward for sure in the way that it improves performance and through the epoxy construction gives your board a much longer life in terms of its top end performance, it won't deaden over time like PU boards do.

Boardshop is stoked to be a key partner for Lost surfboards across Europe and beyond. The staff here have surfed pretty much every board in the range at some time or another and we speak to surfers from all over the world and get their feedback on how the boards perform in all sorts of conditions, so we're well placed to talk about all aspects of Lost Surfboards. The real deal
I bought this in 5’11 , 36 litres in PU and i weigh 87kgs so im over gunning my normal volume due to the uk conditions amd my 42 year old body. Im pretty fit and surf twice a month. Ive been surfing for 20 years and my ability fluctuates based on fitness amd wave conditions.
Ive loved riding fishes and the odd shortboard as well as longboards.
This board genuinely works in multiple conditions. I was at freshwater west last week in chest high, clean beach break. All of the shortboarders were struggling to get into waves but i was picking them off no problem due to the RNF96. Its volume distribution is perfect. It surfs like a mellower shortboard and a super responsive fish. I have the MR 2 + 1 fins that work well with and without the trailer but i still feel like i want to try out a load of other fin combos to see how responsive this thing can get.
The hype is real with this board, the rave reviews are endless. It works in waist to double overhead and has tons of drive.

RNF
Paddles well, catches waves easy, not too nosy doesn’t plough in through turns. Maintains speed through turns. Especially cutbacks. I would suggest changing fins to suit conditions regularly. Great fun board. Stoked. Thanks board shop.

RNF 96 6”0
Scored a 6”0 / 38L from the Wednesday email, arrived in good order and tested it this morning in solid 6-8ft Les Landes breaks. I was a tad worried it had too much volume for these waves and while walking to the beach I nearly turned around to swap it for my 6”3 Round Up…..

….but so glad I didn’t!!! This thing paddles like a madman, duck dives ok for 38L and goes like a fighter jet. It had no problem with the steep drops and it is just so playful and fast. I have a 2+1 twin fin set and I’m never going to change that on this board.

I had such great fun on this board and also catched a few 2-3 foot foam rollers on my way to the beach and it surfed them nearly as easy as a groveller. Ideal wave range probably 4-6 ft, but it can handle 2-8 ft. Weapon of choice for now!
