The Firewire Seaside surfboard is one of the best-selling hybrid surfboards of all time, and for good reason. Designed by Rob Machado, this small wave speedster has always been a go-to for fun, fast, flowy surfing. Whether you’re groveling summer slop or wrapping turns in clean, waist-high runners, the Seaside is a board that makes every day more fun. It’s compact, wave-hungry, and one of the best small wave quads ever made.

From the shaper

Rob designed the Seaside from the ground up around a quad fin setup. It’s not a thruster. It’s not a five-fin. This is a pure quad. And everything, from the rocker to the concave setup, is engineered to work with that fin configuration. The result is a super-fast, responsive board with effortless flow and hold. “Volcanic tech just adds that extra bit of spark,” says Rob. “It’s lighter, quicker, and more fun to surf, full stop.”

Watch the Firewire Seaside in Action

Rob Machado puts on a show and reveals what the Seaside is capable of...

Why We Love the Seaside

1. Designed for Quads, Built for Speed
Everything about the Seaside is built to go fast. The tail, the rails, the rocker, the concaves, they’re all there to generate and hold speed in average surf. It surfs tight in the pocket and wraps turns like a dream.

2. Upgraded Tech
The new Volcanic construction brings more drive and flex, plus it’s stronger and more eco-friendly than traditional PU or epoxy. It’s the perfect match for a board designed to be surfed hard and often.

3. Pocket Rocket for Real Waves
This isn’t just a groveller. The Seaside performs well in punchy waist- to head-high waves. If you’re looking for a board that’s loose but holds its line, this is one of the best hybrid options out there.

4. Perfect for UK Conditions
The Seaside’s speed, paddle power and versatility make it a favourite for typical UK conditions. Think wind slop, short-period swell, and those rare magic days. It’s quick to get going, nimble enough for tighter beach break pockets, and holds rail when the waves clean up. One board that suits most sessions.

How to Size the Seaside

Because of its volume and wide tail block, the Seaside can be ridden 2–4 inches shorter than your regular shortboard. If you’re a mid-length rider looking to size down or a groveller fan looking for a performance upgrade, this board will fit right into your quiver. Pair it with Futures quad fins, Machado’s signature quads work perfectly.

I love the seaside
I am 5'11 ft and 77 kilo's and bought the Seaside in 5'5. I use it as my daily driver for 2-6 surf. The Seaside is very versatile in wave range and fin options and Firewire’s Helium Technology feels soldi and light. It is very lively under foot. If your looking for a performance fish don't hesitate to buy it in the same volume as your performance shortboard. I would recommend this board to everyone!

Favourite board
This board puts a smile on your face.
When the waves are clean it absolutely flies down the line.
I'm 6ft and have just moved down to the 5'4 after riding the 5'7, felt that was just a little bit too big for me.

FireWire Seaside 5’6
Used the Seaside for the first time today. Waves More solid and clean than normal. This board flies! It’s all true. Easy paddle in and great glide and carve, and can still turn hard and sharp. Support and advice from Matt at Boardshop was brilliant so I was confident I was getting the right board to suit me. Thanks Matt.

Amazing
Sick board, flies in everything,
Best when the waves are shoulder high to well overhead! Holds rail in the bigger stuff really well and never feels sketchy it stable as the width is upfront but loose off the tail as it's so pulled in and thin.
I'm 5'11 87kg and the 5'9 is perfect, even with a 5mm suit, boots and gloves.

Superb Board
I've taken it out over 15 times now and the board is so much fun. Just like all the reviews you will find, its fast, paddles great and goes well in a variety of conditions. Go with the Machado quad fin set, it works great.

Needless to say I'm so happy with the purchase!

Currently my personal favourite. 5'6
First of all, excellent service from the Boardshop team. The board was packed so well and immaculate when it arrived.

I've held off the review for a while now as I'd like to leave an honest review after at least a month of riding this board. It has now been two months since I've received this board and it has been one of my best decisions yet. I've had my eye out for this board since it came out but due to constant travel it wasn't on my shortlist as the price is pretty hefty but since being back in the UK and back in Bournemouth (yes isn't the greatest spot but hey you take what you get init?) I decided to splurge on a decent board that'll hopefully help me progress. Of course, I bought the Machado quads to pair em up, and yes it works extremely well! to add to that I paired it up with the CI Al Merrick Keels and honestly felt more drive to it but it might be due to favoritism as I do prefer twins and this is my first quad board, so it is very interesting.

It took awhile to understand the board, the first time on felt like the flash this is by far one of the fastest boards I've ever ridden, to the point that it felt like it knew where I wanted to go and reached there before I could think of the next move but once you understand what the board wants its a dream, honest wave magnet. I somehow feel like the board shines between the waist to overhead surf as tested it out to North Devon a few days ago during the hurricane sam sesh and was aces not saying it doesn't work as well in the smaller seshes, it does. I would personally swap the quads to twins when it's waist and below as I personally like the looseness of it but once it gets bigger definitely felt more comfortable with the quads.

The paddle support this board offers is also a plus point I bought the 5'6 and I'm 5'9, that little rocker it has helps a lot glides you perfectly in and eases the takeoff and boom it generates speed by itself and since I've gotten this board and have ridden it the last two months it has drastically improved my cutbacks and turns and has helped me slow down as its a "less is more" kinda board, as I said it produces so much speed you don't actually have to pump too much to make the maneuvers, you just got to time it right. Loving it to the max.

tested this board in Brn, K-bay, Cornwall, and Devon. Of course, the Atlantic swell is always better the channel slush we get haha but can't complaint works in all condition tbh, so if you're contemplating on this board don't, I surf it in 1-3ft slush here in BRN and still works like a charm the fact it's so fast helps.
However, I do believe you need to be able to already surf to ride this board, definitely not a beginner board I realized when I was in devon a lot of people have this board and struggle to catch anything or get nasty wipeouts so I guess stick to your lane. Having fun is more important than having a beautiful board yes it'll help you progress if you already know how to do maneuvers and want to work on em but won't work if you don't know anything. It's like driving an F1 car without prior training haha.

Another plus point is the helium2 design, the visible paulownia rail at the tail looks amazing haha.
Thanks, Boardshop team!

Ordered a 5,6,

There’s not much to say about this excellent charger. Had to sand the finboxes a bit to make the futures fit but finally all perfect!

Hope u guys are back in the EU soon, the stop at the customs was a bit bitter. Well packaged - great support by the boardshop crew!

Fantastic!
What a board! Prior to this I had both potato models, so was keen to stay with FireWire. I’m 6’0” 80kg and got the 5”10 seaside. Soon as it arrived I booked a session at the wave in Bristol. What a fun board! Really fast, skatey feel. Maximum enjoyment. Really easy to pick up speed down the line. Nice volume, easy to paddle into waves. I will enjoy this board for years to come.
