Top 10 Surfboards Of The Year 2019 - Boardshop.co.uk

Boardshop's Top 10 Surfboards of the year (a 2019 summary!!)

Not of huge importance to you, I'm sure but thought we’d share the top 10 selling surfboards of 2019. There are a couple of surprises in there but it’s always good to know you're on the right board. If you’re not on a board that’s on the list don’t worry, you are a true individual pursuing your own path!

We were over overwhelmed with new surfboards in 2019.

Innovation is shape, construction, performance and aesthetics are all in good supply, lets not waste anymore time waffling lets get into it.

10. Lib Tech x Lost Puddle Fish

Lib Tech x Lost Puddle Fish Surfboard Top 10 Surfboards Of The Year

Originally a real marmite brand for a lot of people, but love it or hate it these boys are now serious players in the surfboard world.

The colabs with Matt Biolos at Lost has elevated them to the top of the tree (well nearly).

Having sorted out the fin system, worked on flex whilst maintain their environmental credentials they’re on a role, the Puddle Fish is a great little board that did well for Lost but we suspect is doing even better for Lib Tech.

The Puddle Fish feels like it suits the construction, a little more stiffness helps it fly especially in marginal conditions.

Not massively unlike the Firewire Seaside in design principal its a great investment for the coming months.

9. Pyzel Phantom

Pyzel Phantom

Called the Phantom, there is something scarily good about this surfboard.

A performance shape, blended with incredible paddle speed, great wave entry and a forgiving nature that most boards like this fail to possess.

Great in waves from waist high to 2-3ft overhead easily, the speed and manoeuvrability you get with the Phantom makes you feel like you are surfing better than ever.

Perfect to pair with its other family members, the Ghost and Gremlin, you will have three boards to cover you in every type of wave and the Phantom will be your daily driver that you surf most of the time.

8. Lost El Patron

Yes Mr Biolos, yes, just yes! The surfer who can surf and still wants to surf needs the El Patron, volume where you need it, a sensible size range, tail options and most importantly a guaranteed smile.

If you don’t get in as much as you like and maybe too many stops at McDs this board might be your salvation...Biolos hasn’t overloaded the rails with foam, in fact he’s got the balance just right. Good work Matt.

7. Christenson Pegaso

A true thing of beauty, ahem, once you get past that and start to appreciate the design of the Pegaso you’re going to be hooked.

A performance fish for someone who like the ethos of a fish but wants a board to surf in a variety of conditions and in a more performancy way.

Its got that fast and fun twin feel without a foam heavy cumbersome tail that restricts what you want to do with your surfing.

Paddle in speed is good, flow is all there and if you fancy a bit of vertical surfing its got that covered too.

6. Lost Smooth Operator

Why would you not ride the Smooth Operator? OK can hear you shouting ‘well I’m not 50 yet’, and ‘I like actually turning my board’ well fair enough but don’t discount it just yet.

Its alot like the Mark Phipps One Bad Egg in many ways but manages to shoehorn in a little more volume and also gives you a 4 + 1 fin set up.

This extra little bit of volume will defo be what some people are looking for and the options to surf as a quad will tick the box for some others too.

It’s a well made craft with the tell tale Biolos attention to detail regarding bottom contours, rail line and fin plug positioning.

It flows really nicely, paddles in like a demon and cuts back really nicely. A great addition to the world of mid length boards.

5. Firewire Helium Evo

The Evo is never going away, there’s nothing else out there like it, everyone should own one at some time in their surfing life.

4. Pyzel Gremlin

Pyzel Gremlin Surfboard Top 10 Surfboards Of The Year

As a groveler with a bit more performance the Gremlin almost invented this category.

It’s just such a functional, fun surfboard, nearly perfect in many ways.

If you live in the UK this could be the only board you’ll ever need, if you don’t surf waves more than a foot or two overhead then with the Gremlin you’re covered.

Build quality is supreme and looking at the current Pyzel range you can clearly see where the Gremlin fits, lets face it of most of us its all we’d ever need.

3. Lib Tech x Lost Puddle Jumper HP

Lib Tech x Lost Surfboards Puddle Jumper HP Top 10 Surfboards Of The Year

Second entry for Lib Tech, this brand new model is a banger.

So super successful for Lost last year we’re a bit surprised they’ve given it up to Lib so soon.

The real reason is probably that they like us have realised that different people by Libs and Lost boards.

The lib Tech durability is a huge thing for many people and now with a host of excellent models and a refined and improved product there is no reason not to go donw this route.

The PJ HP is a bit like the Gremlin, sits above the true groveler style boards but is still a hybrid and not a shortboard ie its very usabale for pretty much every surfer

2. Mark Phipps One Bad Egg

We love it, you love, everyone loves its. The One Bad Egg what a board!

1. Firewire Seaside

Firewire Seaside Top 10 Surfboards Of The Year

The hype was huge, the first delivery sold out in a day, then the supply chain broke down and the Americans decided to keep them for themselves but the fact remains its a brutally good surfboard.

Incredible paddling and wave entry, breathtaking speed and the ability to lay it on a rail and whip through turns that you’d expect in a high performance shortboard.

It’s got the lot (once you get used to it) and again could have been designed for our waves.

You’re not going to ride a 5’ 1 like Machado, don’t be afraid to get a bit of extra foam under your feet, that wicked pulled in knifey tail easily overcomes a bit more float upfront.

Grab your Seaside today and see what all the hype is about!!
