BOARDSHOP - BATTLE OF THE BOARDS - ROUND 2!

This week were putting the Pukas Resin Cake and the Channel Islands Average Joe head-to-head to find out which groveller tips the scales! Some of the boys here at Boardshop HQ have had a chance to surf these boards over the last few weeks and the results are in! We've analysed every aspect of these boards, the full results are below!

Paddling

The resin cake paddles like a dream, wide nose, low entry rocker equals speedy paddling. The AJ is loaded with volume through the flat centre section of the board that extra volume in the nose means you need to surf it a little shorter than the RC to get the same performance. Like the RC it performs really well.

Wave catching
Both really good, there's hardly a bump that will escape you on either of these. The RC handles wave entry better once you get over shoulder high waves, but let's face it if it's shoulder high plus you're jumping on a different board aren't you?

Speed
Hard to separate again in terms of speed when up and riding and speed through the turn. In slacker waves they match up the same, the big difference is when conditions improve, above chest high the AJ feels slow compared to the RC. The conclaves and pulled in tail of the RC give it the edge and make for a really fun surf.

Average Joe - 3/5

Turning
The RCs pulled in tail really gives it an edge over the AJ, although the little pulled in bump on the AJ improves turning no end compared to other boards out there it's good but not as good as the RC.

Fun Factor
Both the boards are great, fact! We've sold lots of each and have had universally good feedback. In really poor waves the RC gives a little more back, if you're using it in slightly better conditions as a rule the AJ is a match for the RC. Both guarantee heaps of waves and big grins.

Result
The AJ came along first and it was a bit of a revelation, a true groveller that would turn as well! It was and still is a firm favourite. The RC introduced a bit more more manoeuvrability without sacrificing wave catching, and its performance in chest high waves is really what gives it the edge, the winner is the Pukas Resin Cake
