Slater Designs LFT Gamma surfboard (high performance dims) 5ft 11 Futures - White

Product Details
Over the last year Kelly has collaborated with several top shapers and experimented with different shapes and templates, but it has been his own creation which has stolen his attention.
Kelly's interest in CAD design has given him the opportunity to experiment and mess around with variables, test riding numerous prototypes until he arrived at the awesome Gamma, an all-round performance shortboard that he'll no doubt be riding throughout his 2017 campaign.
The Gamma has a very speedy template with a single concave running to a slight vee behind the trailing fin. The vee behind the back fin eases rail to rail work and the rocker and rail shape would be classed as "medium" in the world of high performance shortboards. The outline has a clearly defined "hip" which reduces the turning radius and allows the Gamma to be ridden in shorter, wider dims as well as regular HPSB dims.
The Slater Designs Gamma will perform in surf from thigh-high to well overhead.
Linear Flex Technology or LFT has replaced the Rapidfire internal carbon rods with an 18mm wide composite Springer stringer HD Suspension System that runs from nose to tail and includes a top-deck sheet to improve compression resistance. This high density insert creates additional strength through the centre with increased flex through the tail. The EPS top sheet buffer above the HD Springer allows for some compression but without the raised ridge and cracking that can occur with traditional wooden stringer surfboards. LFT delivers plenty of 'TWANG' in and out of your turns and creates the fast-twitch flex response that gives the surfer the feedback and return desired. LFT at last brings the perfect blend of a brand-new traditional PU 'board feel' with the added durability of modern sandwich construction.

Col McCann (reviewed 25/12/2018)
Rode it for the first time on a day that was supposed to be 7/8ft height waves on a reef in Sligo on the northwest of Ireland with light offshore winds but it ended up being shoulder to just head high but the board went class. When I first paddled out the board felt very squirmish under my belly and it took a little getting used to when paddling but this was the first sign that the board was going to be a little more lively than I was used to. I have a 6'0 Sci-fi and also had a 6'1 Sci-fi so I am no stranger to Slater Designs but when I caught my first wave, this board was different to anything I have ridden before. It feels so active and lively under my feet that I could literally point the board and it would go. I was riding it with large FCSII Reactors which are for peaky beach breaks or hollow conditions which this wasn't really but it was a leaky drop. The board allowed me to draw more into my bottom turns to come back up more vertically than I have before which allowed for tighter top turns and nice cutbacks that had nice flow. The additional length of the 6'6 while originally intended to get me into larger waves was handy for the extra paddling power to get in early and be confident on the wave although I did get cocky a couple of times and drop out of the sky to nowhere. If I snapped this board or lost it I would definitely buy the same again in the high performance dims and in LFT.
On a side note, when I was going to buy this board I was intent on the Helium as it just looked so clean and aesthetically pleasing but on speaking to a couple of the guys in Boardshop, I was persuaded that the LFT was the way to go with the extra weight making for a better board on those not so smooth days. I'm grateful for the helping hand as the waves in Ireland are not always offshore.
I hope you find this review helpful as I read so many before purchasing but couldn't quite believe that it wasn't just people raving about their new favourite purchase as I have many boards but this board is as good as you'll read in the reviews.
