Product Details

The Slater Designs Gamma in Helium technology has been Kelly's go-to utility shortboard in 2017.

Over the last year Kelly has collaborated with several top shapers and experimented with different shapes and templates, but it has been his own creation which has stolen his attention.

Kelly's interest in CAD design has given him the opportunity to experiment and mess around with variables, test riding numerous prototypes until he arrived at the awesome Gamma, an all-round performance shortboard that he'll no doubt be riding throughout his 2017 campaign.

The Gamma has a very speedy template with a single concave running to a slight vee behind the trailing fin. The vee behind the back fin eases rail to rail work and the rocker and rail shape would be classed as "medium" in the world of high performance shortboards. The outline has a clearly defined "hip" which reduces the turning radius and allows the Gamma to be ridden in shorter, wider dims as well as regular HPSB dims.

The Slater Designs Gamma will perform in surf from thigh-high to well overhead.

Firewire’s Helium tech is all about making an already amazing set of construction options even better. Its lighter, seems strong, no signs of any pressure marks at all, and very fast. High Density Aerospace Composite Deck Skins and a new Paulownia/Balsa mix on the rails gives a faster flex response. Having surfed the tech in a couple of different models it does feel light but the speed through a stiffer feel and responsiveness is exceptional, Helium is here to stay.

Boardshop is stoked to be a key partner for Firewire and Slater Design surfboards across Europe and beyond, we've been with them since the very start. The surfboards are more durable than other surfboard manufacturing processes, and for 90% of surfers they will improve your surfing. Firewire is pushing the limits of applying new technology and innovation to surfboard design and always has an eye on the environmental impact of what they do, they truly are different to the other board companies out there. A big chunk of the boards in both the Slater and Firewire ranges are perfectly suited to the waves that 90% of us surf on a regular basis, so if you haven't already, give them a try.

Great board
I bought the 6'3 hp dims 33.1ltrs , been surfing a 604 flexfire 29.6ltrs for last few years and loved it. Now I'm getting older (48) i decided to up the volume slightly as the flexfire is a pig to paddle, the Gamma flys,so easy to paddle,i also have a spitfire at 33.5ltrs for grovelling and the gamma paddles better than that..took it out today in solid 4-6ft lowtide waves and its gets in so easy..turns similar to the flexfire, abit looser but thats probably due to the extra volume..so far very pleased with it,great board and a great price.
The Gamma
Slater designs is just simply amazing. I've either had or have all of them at some point and they all bloody fly. I heard about the gamma being a great board but it took me some time to get one. The first Gamma I got was the 5'11 stubby dims. 1st surf and my surfing felt a million times easier than before and caught tonnes of waves more. sharp turns. every surf was miles better than before on my older shortboard type boards. I was so impressed I went out and bought 2 more Gammas one 6'0 in hp dims and a 6'0 in stubby dims all with different type waves in mind and every single one of them perform amazingly. If you don't have one in your quiver I suggest you do. you wont be disappointed.
Well done again Boardshop in stocking slater designs/Firewire
Sd Gamma Helium
I was lucky enough to find this great deal the previous week. The guys in the shop did their best to deliver on time despite the busy days they had with the “Black Friday”week. The board was perfectly wrapped and made the difficult trip around Europe all the way to Greece in great condition.
I didn’t had the chance to surf the board in good conditions yet but the only thing I can tell is that it has way better flex that the Lfts.
Great Board
I'm 6' and 90kg (200lbs) and this board is quite simply brilliant. I am doing pocket turns that were impossible on my other boards. At first this board feels too loose, skatey and maybe even twitchy . I wanted a board that would be good from shoulder high to double over head+ and after my first few surfs I was thinking that it would be good for only head - maybe head+half max. However, if you give the board time it will repay in bucket loads. This board needs to be surfed off the back foot for sure and there is plenty of speed and I'm surfing it as a thruster so it would be lightning as a quad! I think it is best suited to intermediate / advanced to get the most out of it and if you give it time it will repay. For me, it's a vehicle for taking my surfing to a better level.
Not for kooks
Super light, super whippy, so quick and reactive. Did some of my best ever surfing on this board.. but... it I was not good enough to ride it to its full potential. Despite the user friendly dims it's definitely a high performance board.

If you're a good surfer this board would be amazing. The response and the helium tech is so far above that of PU.

I had to trade this in though -bought it at the same volume as my other boards (33L at 80kg) but the rocker made it a dog to paddle in winter (not too bad in summer), and the rocker.. although making for some epic turns with feet placed perfectly did not allow for much forgiveness. I previously had a Fred rubble which this board replaced and the rubble was far more user friendly.

I'll still give it 5 stars as its epic, just needs to be in the right hands. The Evo suits me a lot better!
an amazing board way over my expectations!!
Hi Ian.
I just want to let you know that the Gamma is an amazing board way over my expectations!!
Again thanks for your help
Slater Gamma Helium 6'2
As soon as I unwrapped this beast (which was without a scratch and delivered in 24hrs) I could feel that it was certainly the lightest shortboard I have ever owned. Even with fins, tailpad leash and wax added its still super light. It is whiter than white and first impressions of its strength after a quick squeeze seem to be great.
The hips in the tail draw into what should be a great high performance shortboard that will sit alongside my omni perfectly.
I jave now had one surf on it in horrendous 5 ft howling north westerleys and although difficult to get a real feel for it it seemed to be awesome. Paddles extremely well despite the lightness. And although bouyant it duck dives like a dream.
I found it very easy to drive off the bottom and whip it vertically into the lip and whip back down on my backhand. (Didnt get to go frontside much)
I am excited to get this board into some good waves and see how it performs but i am pretty confident it is gonna be a keeper.
Slater designs all day long for me.
They just bloody work.
5 stars - Overall Perfect
I've just received this board, with fins and grip. Everything is perfect.
The packaging was incredibile, nothing can damage it.
It came to me very soon, from U.K., to Italy in 5 days. Puncutality, seriousness and competence.
The board is really light, fast and strong. The innovative materials in Helium Technology, makes me feel new sensations under the feet. So responsive and so high performance. It's a new concept of surfing.
I'm 175cm x 73kg, I've bought a 5'9 x 19 1/4 x 2 1/5 - 28.5 lt Helium Gamma, I often surf in Italy with small swells and sometimes medium days. It goes well in every condition, windy or glassy, 1 ft or 6 ft, barrels, mushy or small days.
Overall perfect.
I will buy boards and accessories from Boardshop so many other times, thanks for the level of service.
I advise BOARDAHOP.CO.UK. at all ... So Happy! See you in the water!
light stick
don't snap it and shake it to see if it glows, but yeah, first few sessions of use and it's a light stick...
Beautiful non-nonsense shortboard
Hi, just got my 6'2 Gamma Boardshop.uk. As always, easy, agreable, fast, arrived in 3 days in Germany in mint condition (so don't worry about shipping). The board is looking great. Great outline, rounded, still HP but a bit wider than a standard pro shape. Very subtle volume distribution with nice medium rails (still like a HP Shortboard and thinned out in the last 15'') and flatter deck. It has a great continuous rocker line with some nose and a relevant tail kick rocker and a bit of staged rocker in front of the fins for drive. Single concave, not overly deep (3 mm) but noticeable. Looks like a great big guy shortboard for anything from better waist high waves to overhead and a bit.
And Helium feels very solid, like FST, maybe a bit softer on the outside, but good resistance, and with a slight weight advantage (2,9 kg with pad w/o leash compared to 3,1+ish on my other FST boards). Still doesn't feel too light. Frothing to get it wet soon.
I was worried it could be a too blown up hybridish shape but that's gone. Great work by KS and Firewire.
Love this site. Provide a very good insight to all the boards for sale. Lets you know what your buying and what your buying it for. Keep it up. Good work.
