Description

The Phipps One Bad Egg surfboard is a purists dream and simply oozes class. The beautiful clean lines of this performance egg make it an absolute must-have if you fancy taking on some big chunky waves or just fancy cruising some summer walls.

Yeah you could find a shorter, wider summer ride but you won't find a better paddling surfboard that'll thrive in double overhead waves and still be a dream to ride when it's waist high and a bit mushy.

This stunning surfboard comes with a 2+1 fin set up so you can experiment with a multitude of fin configurations. The One Bad Egg really paddles beautifully and delivers incredible drive especially with a good set of side fins and a smaller 6 or 7 inch fin in the box.

Really difficult to pigeonhole, the OBE will appeal to anyone from intermediate to advanced. Surfers keen to take on some sizeable surf will love the paddle speed, drive and security the surfboard offers, and the less adventurous will enjoy a drivey and fast turning mid-length that'll definitely improve your surfing, particularly your ability to turn a board and generate speed from the tail.

The Phipps One Bad Egg is a modern take on a classic shape and is undoubtedly the best performance egg on the market today. Technical director and Boardshop owner Roger has a 6'6 with a flat grey spray and it looks absolutely stunning!

Mark Phipps has been 'mowing foam' for nearly as long as he's been surfing. He started shaping and first picked up a planer under the wing and careful guidance of Wayne Lynch and Greg Brown in the famous Gash factory. Mark now divides his time between his home town of Point Lonsdale in Victoria, Australia and France. This allows him to make the very best of the surf in both locations, keep his finger on the "surf" pulse and keep in touch with the travelling pros who love his unique custom made shortboards.

If we don't have the Phipps surfboard you're looking for, or the stock dims don't work for you, just give us a ring on (44) 01243 674250 or email info@boardshop.co.uk and we'll happily discuss a custom order for you.

The Boardshop team are absolutely stoked to be stocking Mark's amazing shapes and would happily consider taking your old or unwanted surfboard as a trade-in against a new Phipps surfboard.

Wicked board
After some emails and a call to the board shop I was advised to go for the OBE, what a great board. I came from a 7.2 mod fish to this and I feel it paddles better and catches better with loads more performance when up which is what I wanted.
Love this board!
Thanks Matt for the advise and quick delivery

One bad egg
Ordered a 7foot 2 one bad egg and as usual the service was absolutely spot on. This is the 3rd board I've ordered from boardshop and they always arrive super quick with bombproof packaging. As for the board it's a thing of beauty, I've yet to take it out because the conditions have been shockingly bad so it's been all about the volume but if it goes as well as it looks I'll be super happy. I'd never use anyone else for boards

Great board- lives up to the hype
Always fancied this board and finally decided to buy the 6’8 after exchanging a few emails with Matt. Was looking for a board to progress on from my 7’2 flowstik, that works in bigger waves, is forgiving enough for a rusty technique and paddles well. Took it out for the first time today in some waist high surf and it was great. Paddled nearly as well as my bigger board and was everything I was hoping it would be for a bang average intermediate. Was slightly worried the board may be too narrow but no problems at all. Board looks great too. Paired with a 6.5” Kai salas centre fin and quad rear neo glass performers as recommended and they worked well too. Looking forward to getting a few more sessions in to put it through its paces a bit more.

top quality service
I was on a waiting list for the board, received a personal email from Ian and promptly ordered. Needed advice on the fin and after a chat with Ian regarding his preference settled on fcs 2 kai salsas, got to said the service from board shop was second to none.. can't review the board as waves didn't turn on , but will say it turned up super fast and in perfect condition,
Thanks to all the staff ,
Marc Armstrong.

The exact board I was looking for!
During the first five minutes I knew this was the board I was looking for! I got the 6.6. It’s long enough and has enough volume so the paddle isn’t hard (I’ve paddled out back as easily as I would with my 7.2 minimal) and in the first 5 minutes I caught a wave, managed to do turns straight away and it was as responsive as I wanted it to be - even better actually because I went in without expecting to score much as I thought I would need some time to get to know the board. It catches everything, really easy to paddle into waves and so light in comparison to my other board. A real winner!

Sweet board! 6'6 OBE
I'm 42, 5'10, 76kg. I've been surfing since I was about 14 and bought this to up the wave count, and to dip a tentative toe in to see what this mid-length fuss is about (admittedly it is right at the bottom length of that category of board). It has not disappointed, a really fun board to ride. So, so easy to get into waves but still duckdives fine. A paddling machine in the currents. I have had it out at 2 ft, horrible onshore Putsborough and caught just as many waves as the long boarders, and out at solid , clean 5-6ft low tide Bud, and it has gone well in all conditions. It definitely demands a different surfing style than a shortboard - more flowing, more front foot, more compression, lean and twist. But that in itself is tons of fun and I think it probably translates back to better , more flowing surfing when (and if...) you get back on a shortboard. I can still see myself wanting to switch back to a shortboard for a bit more responsiveness from time to time in the future, but from now I am pretty stoked to be getting a slightly different angle on surfing riding this board for the forseeable future. Tonnes of fun. Give it a go!

Epic!!
Bought this board in a 6'6" from the Boardshop trade ins, not a single pressure mark on it for a fraction of the cost. Super pleased, although wanted it in a 6'8"/6'10" the 6'6" paddles super well and flys. I usually shortboard around 5'8" boards so the step up was perfect. So far I have used this board on a number of waves I would usually take the shortboard to, from big point breaks to hefty beach breaks it goes in anything. Super pleased with the board and cannot recommend boardshop enough, they're great with advice, are speedy and post the best reviews.

Thanks boardshop, stoked.

7,2 OBE
I'm really enjoying my OBE and the extra paddle speed. I've not ridden my shortboarbs since receiving the OBE in July. I will dust off the shortboards at some point, but for the moment I'm having too much fun on the egg. I have taken it out in well overhead Lynmouth and Croyde and it goes great. The board comes in pretty narrow dimensions with a decent bit of tail rocker so you can turn it hard when your foot is over the tail. Just get one!

Just incredible
I bought one of these 2 weeks ago after having a really fustrating surf I was getting so annoyed in a crowed line up not getting into waves and not enjoying surfing a short board so after 2 phone calls with Ian I settled on a 6'8 I weigh 84kg and normally surf East Coast of England so our waves are not the best I have since surfed this board in all types of waves and I could not be more happy in over head clean waves it felt so good fast flowing carves but step on the tail and you can still hit the lip in waist high waves it was super smooth it paddles like a dream getting me into waves early and easly maintain speed and flow I even paddled out one day on some onshore really messy shoulder high waves more to just get in the water but was amazed at how well the board did just seems like there is nothing this board won't do so I have now sold all my other boards as I just know already I am never going to take them out over this and bought my self a new long board that way when I get to the beach I have very easy desicion to make under waist high I am going out on the long board any thing else I am out on this. Massive thanks to ian for his advice after trying loads of different boards over the last 2 years I have finally found the one and could not be happier

Wow
Great first experience of Boardshop! The buying process was easy, even during these strange times. Had some good advice from Matt and my new OBE 7’2” arrived intact wrapped in a cocoon of bubble wrap and cardboard. Finally got some waves after an interminably long flat spell.
I surfed on two consecutive days in crowded, average 2-3ft waves. The board lives up to its billing! It is a fast paddler, so you get loads of waves and it is light and responsive to surf.
On Matt’s advice I fitted it with two FCS II NEO Glass performer quad rears and a 7” FCS II PC Connect rear fin. Having started with the rear fin in the centre of the box I moved it right forward and felt this was best for the conditions. Very impressed and I look forward to getting out in some bigger surf.
