Product Details

The Lost Round Nose Fish Redux surfboard by Matt Biolos will put a huge grin on your face.

The twin fin is back with a vengeance and Lost Surfboards have joined the party with the RNF Redux, a reworking of the classic RNF combined with the post 2000 RNF-Quint. For the RNF-Redux, Matt took the best from both these models. He kept the pulled-in nose of the original and took the glide and versatility of the more cruizy RNF-Quint. The result of this alchemy was a ripable hybrid that paddles like a groveller and glides over the flatter faced waves and smaller junky swells. This new template also has the ability to execute precise high speed surfing in good quality waves.

The rocker, bottom contours and the forward outline are taken from the original RNF, whilst the tail shape is a hybrid of both the RNF and the Quint. The mark Richards influenced wing blends into a narrower swallow tail which reduces the surface area and delivers that scalpel sharp bite when turning tight in the pocket. The increase in area just in front of the wing, creates a more parallel outline between the feet, giving early planing and glide and plenty of drive.

This ripable addition to the Lost quiver has all the attributes you’d expect in an updated RNF; a nice low centreline rocker and a gentle concave under the front foot which aids the board when planing at low speeds and negotiating the flats. The flat concave in the nose is very forgiving on wave entry and when executing turns. The Vee at the tail and low rocker frees up the fins and gives loads of control. The radical change from concave in the centre, to vee in the tail creates an aggressive rail rocker that engages when the board is rolled onto a rail. It then feels like a board with much more overall rocker. Thus allowing tight radius turns on the face, and in the lip.

The Round Nose Fish Redux comes with five fin boxes as standard with the front fins in a classic twin-fin position, they are set back slightly just like the glassed on fins of the twinnies in the '90s. This is the first board from Lost designed to be ridden with large twin fins up front but with a vast array of options with the 5 boxes.

Set your surfing free and feel the speed with a set of large twins up front, add a stabilizing trailer fin for a little more control or wack in some small side bites for heaps of drive and hold in steeper waves.....the options are almost endless.

Great all rounder
Great board in average waves , I'm 5"11 and 92kg , this board still paddles so easy. Surfed it head high clean waves ,board was fast down the line and real loose with a twin fin set up easy to whip around , also surfed it in the usual 3 ft slight onshore and was still loads of fun , easy to paddle into waves and generates enough speed to get in front of crapy sections, well happy with the kit and with the service , real quick delivery no dings no nonsense, great job !
A classic improved!
I had an original RNF back in the day, and loads of fish / hybrid boards since. But, this could be one of the first boards in 20 years to bring the instant magic feeling back! I surf a 5ft 8 alternating between a twinny + trailer or quad fin setup and the board absolutely flies. Glides into waves with ease (great paddling power) with brilliant in built speed. As suggested by Matt Biolos the board feels really good with big fins up front, and you get an extra sense of drift or release that’s really hard for an everyday surfer, like me, to get from a standard thruster setup.

Not managed to surf the board in anything with real size yet, but I can imagine it would be brilliant in a big wave with plenty of face to play with. All in all if you are looking to mix things up a bit and bring the fun back, this is the board for you. Thanks Boardshop for hooking me up.
