Grace Demibu surfboard 7ft 0 Futures - White
Phil was looking for a more manageable board that was easy to transport to and from the beach and wouldn't incur the hefty surcharges some airlines levy.
Essentially the Demibu is a Malibu with the middle third missing. What you're left with is an easy paddling mini longboard with a pretty lively nature once you're up and riding and engage your rear foot. Phil set about cutting his Malibu in half, a three fin setup was incorporated and the bottom contours were fine tuned to suit.
I took a 6ft 8 Demibu for a splash a few weeks back and was a little surprised with the boards performance and versatility. Plenty wide enough under the chest and a fast, easy paddler, however the Demibu is way more than a chopped-down mal. Select your wave and you can really throw this little board around. The diamond tail has the bite of a rounded pin but with a faster release noticeable when you try to pivot the board and throw the nose around.
In the smaller sizes, the Phil Grace Demibu is a really great option for a competent surfer who wants to make the most out of weaker, mushier conditions or wants to improve his wave-count at overcrowded breaks. Sized up, the Demibu is real crowd pleaser, catching way more waves than it ought to and allowing the odd "cheater 5" as well as tracing some lovely lines on the open face.
Don't confuse the Demibu with a mini mal, this brilliant little board has a bit more to offer with a really well thought out outline, in fact its more akin to a magic carpet but with a more performance driven rear third which will appeal to guys who genuinely surf from the back foot.
Not a board that's easy to pigeon hole, the Demibu could find a home in almost anybodies quiver. Shortboarders frustrated by longboards and paddle boarders hogging all the set waves will relish the earlier wave entry, and older surfers or guys and girls who get limited water-time due to family and work commitments will love the forgiving nature this little beauty brings.
