Description

The Firewire Timbertek Sub Moon surfboard could well be the the first truly performance FUNshape in a longboard guize. Don't confuse the Sub Moon with a mini-mal, it's way more than that. This board turns on a dime and with it's Timbertek lightweight technology can be driven hard of the bottom and vertically up the face of the wave. Designer and legendary board whisperer Nev Hyman explains: "we combined a contemporary rocker and concaves and an even thicknes distribution with a quirky FUNshape outline than encourages a more vertical shortboard approach to the traditional longboard style of surfing. The outline has a generous curve between your feet, which helps the board get on a rail and TURN! The narrower Moon-Tail provides plenty of bite, drive and direction while the Snub-Nose carries area and volume forward for a little bit of tip-time five-over fun". TIMBERTEK represents a huge step forward towards the holy grail of any product designed and manufactured in today's environmentally conscious world. While by no means 'carbon neutral' or sustainably built, Firewire's TIMBERTEK has by far one of the least toxic and smallest carbon footprints of any commercially produced surfboards today. Grant Newby, a talented Ozzy craftsman first turned us on to the potential of this construction, and following his lead, our Firewire R&D and production team worked tirelessly to make this tech a reality in a production setting. Building one-offs or small quantities is one thing (and not to be discounted), but it took a huge effort to overcome all the technical problems that became apparent as we tweaked the original recipe to increase performance and build reasonable quantities. Of course having our own vertical factory was a huge help. The combination of a lightweight EPS core, sustainably-grown timber deck skins, Firewire's legendary parabolic rail construction, and an Entropy bio-resin hot coat give an extremely lightweight and durable surfboard with ALL of the high performance flex traits of Firewire's existing technologies. Even more impressive, this tech has lead to a significant reduction in exterior lamination significantly further educing the boards carbon footprint. TIMBERTEK, it's simply High Performance Art!

Boardshop is stoked to be a key partner for Firewire surfboards across Europe and beyond, we've been with them since the very start.

Firewire is pushing the limits of applying new technology and innovation to surfboard design and always has an eye on the environmental impact of what they do, they truly are different to the other board companies out there.
Firewire have come a long way since the early boards and the range of shapes and tech just gets better and better. A big chunk of the boards in the range are perfectly suited to the waves that 90% of us surf on a regular basis so if you haven't already, give them a try. The staff here have surfed pretty much every board in the Firewire range at some time or another and we speak to surfers from all over the world and get their feedback on how the boards perform in all sorts of conditions so we're well placed to talk about all aspects of Firewire surfboards.

Fits the gap
Basically fits the gap between and long and shortboard. Although it performs closer to a shortboard ...
I found it works better with 3 fins than 4. This may have something to do with the very thin tail thickness. And i've tried the sub with twin fin and trailer WOW .... fires down the line and when cutty time arrives , it will deliver in spades !! Mine is 7ft i've had it for 4 years. The only negative sometimes is going from a thicker board to the submoon as the sub has a very thin tail. but saying that is also why i bought it. I hate FAT RAILS...... Volume is more about where the foam or how and where it's distributed throughout the board. FAT RAILS are ok if its a flat deck and a board built for one metre MUSHBURGERS.... SUBMOON 10/10
