Product Details

The Firewire Nano surfboard is a new board by Daniel Thomson aka TOMO from the Firewire surfboard range. This version of the board is in the FST (Future Shapes Technology) construction.

The Firewire Nano Tomo surfboard is the original Modern Planing Hull (MPH) which is championed by Daniel Thomson and is described as a "user friendly all rounder". The MPH is all about top end speed. The more speed you can generate, the more radical the performance potential can becomes. The MPH Tomo focuses on is closely akin to the hydro plane theory behind wake and kite boards. Tomo himself says "I am convinced that the modern planing hull design will allow surfers to experience higher levels of personal performance. I also strongly believe that the MPH design will provide a platform for top professional surfers to take surfing to newlevels of ‘Ultra high performance’. A design capable of executing the aerial manoeuvres only attempted in the skate, snowboard and wake disciplines, whilst still excelling onwave face with incredible speed, flow and power. The fundamentals of all true performance surfing".

The Nano surfs fast and loose but is also controllable. It is a free flowing board which will work in a whole variety of conditions. The wave range that the nano works in is from thigh high to just overhead depending on the rider's ability, but it loves punchy waves too! Tomo's shapes are the just about the most innovative in the world right now and the one thing his boards guarantee is fun. So who is going to surf the Nano? The answer is anybody, you can choose how it rides, you can push it hard and its a high perfromance board, or you can choose to cruise, you decide. Its like a dream car that is fine round town, easy to drive but when on the track perfroms like a racing car. Your wave count is going to be through the roof and your wife/girlfriend is going to hate this board!

The tech of FST Firewires is based around the rapid response flex memory in the Future Shapes Technology which yields great speed through the turns whilst the parabolic rail configuration guarantees 100% return memory for years. Firewire surfboards feature some very distinct construction traits that set them aside form other boards currently available: 1) parabolic balsa rails 2) dual density EPS and advanced composite core The parabolic balsa rails flex at the start of a turn storing energy and rebound through the turn releasing built up energy in the form of speed. The spring back of the parabolic rails to the original rocker triggers rapid acceleration, like an arrow shot from a bow. The construction materials, a unique formulation of hi-tech epoxy resins and advanced composites mean that these boards maintain the lively feel you get with brand new polyurethane boards, but are up to 20% lighter and will last 5+ times longer. This manufacturing process has won environmental awards and has created a range of lightweight and durable custom boards that are quickly being recognised for their awesome performance. The nature of the core technology in these boards allows them to rebound in and out of turns with little loss of speed.

Fast delivery
Fast delivery just 5 working days to Italy and good package for a safe shipment. Tested just in one clean foot condition but thanks to the big volume was possible to catch waves and do some snap. Big board for old man to avoid longboarding sometimes. One star missing in the rating just because firewire doesn't put screws in the fin boxes. If fcs II are compatible with fcs I should have the necessary accessories yo use old fins. Just few cents for firewire more trouble for a customer who don't have a surf shop in his town like me...just a suggestion: highlight to order the screws with the bord if need to use old fcs fins ;-)
Hi Just to say thank you for getting the board
Hi Just to say thank you for getting the board out so quickly. I surfed it tonight, took about 3/4 waves and it clicked, waves were really good but this thing flies, it goes so fast, think I have found my ultimate combo with sweet potato, up to chest high or fat slow large waves and the nano steep waist high and bigger. Really appreciate the advice. Thank you. Matt : )
This follows on from my initial review and months of
This follows on from my initial review and months of frustratingly poor surf where it was very difficult to get anything like the best out of the board. On Tuesday night I surfed Croyde at 4ft with solid 5ft sets, long walls and put my stretch quad fins in, what a transformation, the nano was fantastic in steep big drops, felt really stable and super loose but held on everything. At last I was seeing what everyone else seemed to see from the board, it is amazingly easy to climb back over whitewater as sections come down even on decent sized waves. I surfed it the next morning in smaller 2-4ft clean waves and had a couple of longer ones where I was able to get loads of turns in which felt effortless, with the board almost squirting its way through and out of them. I must have sorted out my stance which was easy to do in the punchy waves and I am looking forward to solid swell which should be arriving tonight to carry on building on this. I may even try a knubster to see how it works with the quad set (which was how I had them set up on a 6'0 short board). I was really worried that I had gone too big with the 5'8 (76kg, 5'9, 47yrs) and I could surf smaller, but it is very busy in the water here and normally needs a lot of paddling around to move around peaks, but it certainly seems to be working out now and just makes me desperate to keep getting in on it to get more out of it. Bring on autumn/winter swells!
Roger at the boardshop was incredibly helpful with the purchase
Roger at the boardshop was incredibly helpful with the purchase of this board and gave lots of good advice. The service was excellent and the board arrived very well packaged, next day as expected. I haven't had the chance to surf this properly yet as the swell has been too small, but it paddles well and on the couple of small sections that I managed to get it going it was very skatey and picked up speed quickly. I have put a larger set of fins in it now and am keenly waiting for some solid swell. As expected it's definitely not a small, weak wave groveller, but looks like it should be heaps of fun in decent surf.
