Description

The long awaited Firewire Helium Evo has arrived; the ultimate performance Hybrid treated to what is arguably Firewire's best performing, ultra-lightweight Helium construction.

The latest board from Tomo pushes surfboard design again. Having it under your arm puts a huge smile on your face, the anticipation of surfing it is almost too much! We had a chance to have a quick surf on a 5' 5" and although smaller than you'd choose here's what happened: even at this small length it paddled really easily, even in choppy conditions the nose didn't catch. The sheer width of the thing meant it paddled in nice and easy and felt fast, popping up the board feels super stable but very lively. It flows from rail to rail so easily its unreal, Tomo says it feels like its levitating, he's not wrong! Its super smooth and turns easily, an instant smile guaranteed. The smooth and curvy outline really works, it still feels like it'll hold in bigger stuff but for anything knee to head-high its going to be the surfboard of choice. The deep channels give it its drive, presumably what Tomo refers to as the 'double inside single concave into split quad concave planing hull' means the channels. Even Slater said it felt faster than a standard shortboard after that short interlude at the Gold Coast comp.

Firewire’s Helium tech is all about making an already amazing set of construction options even better. Its lighter, more durable than regular PU boards and thus far is proving a little more robust than Firewire's LFT construction. High Density Aerospace Composite Deck Skins and a new Paulownia/Balsa mix on the rails gives a faster flex response. Having surfed the tech in a couple of different models it does feel light but the speed through a stiffer feel and responsiveness is exceptional, Helium is here to stay.

Boardshop is stoked to be a key partner for Firewire surfboards across Europe and beyond, we've been with them since the very start. Firewire surfboards are more durable than other surfboard manufacturing processes, and for 90% of surfers they will improve your surfing. Firewire is pushing the limits of applying new technology and innovation to surfboard design and always has an eye on the environmental impact of what they do, they truly are different to the other board companies out there. Firewire have come a long way since the early boards and the range of shapes and tech just gets better and better. A big chunk of the boards in the range are perfectly suited to the waves that 90% of us surf on a regular basis so if you haven't already give them a try. The staff here have surfed pretty much every board in the Firewire range at some time or another and we speak to surfers from all over the world and get their feedback on how the boards perform in all sorts of conditions so we're well placed to talk about all aspects of Firewire surfboards.

We're happy to consider trading in your old board against a new Firewire, so If you have any questions about this we'd be delighted to answer them and advise on any potential board choices or enquiries you might have, just drop us an email to info@boardshop.co.uk or call us on 0044 (0) 1243 674250.

Excellent
Bought the evo in 5'10, absolutely love it so fast but forgiving feel like it's given my surfing a new boost,.
Probably could have bought the 5'9 but wanted a bit more float for the winter rubber

Amazing
As is the norm’ I get a new board and the Surf goes flat, so Not had a chance to try it out yet,
Had an EVO before and loved it, so my review was for the customer service,
and as always the service at boardshop is second to none.
I’d give 6 starts if I could

Evo Helium 2
Got my first Evo on the first run on LFT ones in 2015, loved it, but moved on after a couple of years. Had a bunch of boards in between and have just got the helium 2 version. I’d forgotten how great they are, so responsive, they just do what you want them to, they feel like they have more float then the written dims, under size for sure. I’m 75kg ish and very average at surfing and ride a 5’6. Could even go smaller, and would be shorter by 2 inches than my fish, my preference board is 5’11. Long and short, don’t wait around, just get one. Does your surfing a favour and makes you feel like you are much better then you are!

EVO Fliesss
Wow! Absolutely unreal board! It levitates, came off a 5’9 glazer and this is so much more fun to surf. Never had to pump to generate speed, board does that for you. 100% size down though, small as you can go. Dropped down about 2.5 litres in volume and was a great decision! Paddles like a mal so definitely don’t need the volume to help you get in early! Surfed it loads and not a pressure mark on it. So much better than PU. Surfed in 2-6 foot and never caught a rail, can push it pretty hard!

Brilliant
After reading many reviews on many different sites I had to get one of these boards. I went for the 5'7" which is much smaller than i'd normally go for, but hey why not. I took the board out at The Wave on the Advanced, Advanced Plus, and Expert Sessions. Gotta say that the speed of it caught by surprise on the first wave (i've been surfing a Glazer recently). After the first couple of waves i found it amazing, it paddles well, easy to catch the waves, super fast, and turns really well. I found it worked on all wave settings i tried. Looking forward to surfing it again next week at The Wave and in the sea in the not too distant future. I definitely feel like this is a board that will help to progress my surfing even at the age of 47

legendary construction and shape
I am 80-85kg, bad to average surfer, and I got the 5'6 with large FCS II performers, and the board goes and paddles like its got an engine under it, especially impressive in mushy onshore conditions. If you are quite heavy and have a lousy technique in sub par conditions I recommend this board.

Great Customer Service and products
I recently ordered and received the new EVO 5' 10" which looks great. Ian and Matt were really helpful advising me of the appropriate size board for me, and recommending a set of FCS II fins. They also kept me informed of the external delivery delays due to the covid situation. The board was well packaged and arrived to my home in perfect condition.
I've not had a chance to use them yet due to the lockdown, but keen to get out there asap.
I highly recommend using BOARDSHOP and happy to give 5 stars !

The Mighty Evo
I have had more fun surfing an Evo than any other board. I bought an Evo 5’7” when they first came out and loved it. I eventually had to pass it on as I rapidly approach bus pass age. I’m now on a 5’9” Helium 2 which has the same fast and loose feel but paddles in a lot more easily. I surf local beach breaks and for me the Evo goes well in waist to head high plus waves. It generates plenty of speed, especially as a quad and works in onshore wobble but is a gem of a board in chest plus clean waves. The new Helium construction has a nice ‘tight’ feel seems to fly over mushy sections. Highly recommended as an all rounder.
