Description

The Firewire Timbertek Greedy Beaver surfboard. The Greedy Beaver looks like a longboard, has all the benefits that a longboard brings but it’s a shortboard in spirit. It’s got the wave catching ability and the glide of a log but has the manoeuvrability you associate with a shortboard. You can put it on a rail and surf it off the tail and it comes to life like you can't believe, tight turns and pocket surfing are a reality on a board which looks like a longboard. All this is possible through the thinned out dropped rails and the single to double concave. The reduced volume in the rail allows you to start your turns more easily than you'd expect and the single to double concave gives the board lift which maintains the speed through fatter or flatter sections of the wave. Guaranteed fun in waves from knee to head high for all levels of surfer. Sizing is straight forward, if you're nearer to the beginner end of the scale, if you're coming off a minimal then go bigger. If you're 70kgs and a progressing beginner it’s the 6 2 or 6 4, if you’re a decent intermediate it’s the 5 10 or 6 0 and if you're a ripper go as short as you like.

Timbertek construction is the combination of a lightweight EPS core, and sustainably-grown timber deck skins, Firewire's legendary parabolic rail construction, and an Entropy bio-resin hot coat give an extremely lightweight and durable surfboard with ALL of the high performance flex traits of Firewire's existing technologies. Even more impressive, this tech has lead to a significant reduction in exterior lamination significantly further reducing the boards carbon footprint. TIMBERTEK, it's simply High Performance Art!

Boardshop is stoked to be a key partner for Firewire surfboards across Europe and beyond. The staff here have surfed pretty much every board in the range at some time or another and we speak to surfers from all over the world and get their feedback on how the boards perform in all sorts of conditions so we're well placed to talk about all aspects of Firewire surfboards. We're happy to consider trading in your old board against a new board, so If you have any questions about this we'd be delighted to answer them and advise on any potential board choices or enquiries you might have, just drop us an email to info@boardshop.co.uk or call us on 0044 (0) 1243 674250.

Amazing Board
I bought the greedy beaver 6“6 for my Dad and 6“2 for me. We both got around 75kg and are surfing just a few weeks every year. So more or less intermediate and we absolutely love not the board! It paddles unbelievable good and as soon as you pop up you got good control and a good speed. Aside from that it’s the most beautiful board for me. Love it!

Only place to go
The guys at Boardshop are everything you don't see in retail these days. Go way beyond the level of service you see or now expect. They are friendly, extremely thorough in their feedback, quick and responsive on phone and email and always happy to talk. As a newbie to surfing, they gave sound advice, support in how to embark on it and got the whole experience off to a flying start. As for the products, they've exceeded expectations and so far I couldn't be happier with my Greedy Beaver! Have a great summer lads and thanks to the full squad at BS.UK with special thanks to Matt and Ian.
Products bought, Greedy Beaver -Futures, Wild Cat tail pad, Tyler Warren quad fins. All work and love the setup. I'll be back!

Excellent choice, surprising board...
It is everything it promises. Very easy entry into the wave, manoeuvrable, and great fun. Great for crowded days... especially for those who, like me, are 1.88cm tall and weigh 90kg.

Very fun and very versatile board
Firstly the customer service from everyone at boardshop is excellent! I had been thinking about buying a GB for a while and now I have, I just wish I picked it up sooner. I have taken it out in a range of conditions from south coast wind slop to chunky groundswell and it goes well in everything. I went for the 6ft board, just for a bit more volume in crappy south coast slop, but I can still duck dive with ease. You can throw it about or just cruise on it. All in all, very happy customer! :)

Great service, great board
Firstly I need to say..... I never really drop reviews. In fact this might be a first. However, I really feel I need to make mention of the absolutely brilliant service from boardshop and the fact that the board is epic!

I was struggling to get on with my original purchase and they honoured the ride out scheme even though it was right at the end of the 30 days and refunded me for the original board. All the staff were great but in particular Yasmin was super helpful and made the process really easy. Very grateful as nothing is worse then buying a board you don’t click with.

On to the board. I’ve had my eye on one of these for ages. I just wasn’t sure about the shape and how it would perform. I’m 40 years old (starting to creak here and there!) 95kg, 6’2 and would class myself as an in shape average surfer who doesn’t get in the water as much as they used to.

I went for the 6’4 with futures (I went for the thruster Alpha F8’’s due to my size)

The board is brilliant. Really good fun and will trim down the line if that’s your thing. However, if you step on the tail it really responds. It’s got a nice kick in the nose meaning it doesn’t dig in like you think it might and you can really throw it about. The extra bit of volume and wider nose gets you into waves but the pulled in tail holds on in steeper sections. I’ve had it set up as a thruster while I dial it in but can see it going well as a quad in the right conditions.

In summery, I jumped on, caught every wave, had fun straight away and can see it being a go to board for me which will allow to trim the line or throw the odd big turn if I feel the need! It’s worth mentioning I haven’t taken it out in anything over waist to shoulder high yet but in those conditions it was really good. Hope this helps!

Firewire Timbertek Greedy Beaver surfboard 6ft 6
Bought this as a step up from a cheap 7ft foam board. The board is amazing, I think its easier to catch waves on than a foamie even when its messy and less than a foot. It also really looks the part! Boardshop delivery was quick and very well protected in transit. VERY happy.

Great board, great customer service
My first new board ever. Always had hand me downs/second HND kit that I’ve had to try and make work for me. Got some advice via email first (more detailed than I was expecting) & bought straight away & haven’t regretted it. Hit some 3-4ft waves my first day out and caught everything. Took a little getting used to getting up (having previously been on much longer boards) but once I got the hang of it, all was well. Day 2 was a bit smaller and more choppy, didn’t quite catch as many, but most likely tired after the day before.

Efficient and fast
Hi'everyone. Efficient and fast...that's about the service at Boardshop. I cannot tell you about the boad, a firewire greedy beaver, because just like you I am stuck at home until the end of containment or confinement or whatever you call it in English. Enjoy your waves.

Great all around board
Needed a board that will fit easily in the car, storage room at home, not possible with my 9'2'' longboard...and still catch waves easily on small/on shore days and surf good...
51 years old, living away from the Ocean, surf 2-5 days every month :( 6'5'' tall, 88 Kg, good physical form, and consider myself a "real" solid intermediate surfer (lived by the Ocean on great surfing spots about 15 years, surfing 2-3 sessions daily... I can surf from ankle high beachbreaks to double overhead reef breaks on most any board and although I don't do the best maneuvers I do make the wave 90% of the times...
To the board:
After quite some pondering I went for the 6'10'' (52 liters) as I am not planning to get stronger or surf more in the near future...
First session surfed a pointbreak headhigh to head and a half, strong off shore winds-30 knots-...not the ideal conditions as the wide nose slowed me down on take off almost as much as a longboard would, almost pearling on late takeoffs but the board held well and once on the face it turned well and went up the lip nicely. Possible to duck dive, but a lot of work when I got caught inside a few times. Would have been better off on my bigger wave board (7'0, 19 feet wide, 2 5/8, about 35 liters more or less...) but had to give new board a try.
Next sesion on shoulder to head high beachbreaks, lined up, very light off shores (yes, an ideal session for anyone :) Low tide was very nice, easy take off even on nice late peaks, board worked amazingly well, super happy !
Then the tide came up, waves got a bit flatter on take off and through all the ride, and crowd increased big time.... and this is when the GB became the PERFECT machine. It took off easy just a little earlier than all the young guys on shortboards, just enough to have priority (actually had to refrain from being too "greedy", let some perfect set waves go by... : ), just needed to be well on front of the board when paddling, stand back on the tail wen popping up and from then on it was a bliss ! easy fast bottom turns, nice cutbacks, slow but easy and well controlled on the lip, easy to pump so as to make flat sections easily, and held speed around closing out sections almost as good a s single fin longboard !
I will still surf my normal shortboards when conditions are perfect and crowd is light, don't want to loose that fast high performance feeling, but as soon as it is a bit on shore, waves are flatter or there is too many people I know which board to take out !
Another point, Boardshop.UK staff really great, answered well and precisely on both Email and phone, delivered to Spain in about 3-4 days, very well packed. Actually I planned to buy board in Spain, local dealer, but service was so good that I changed my mind. Thank you!
