Description

The Channel Islands Rocket Wide surfboard in CI's latest Spine-Tek technology. The latest in a long line of Rocket family boards which have dominated the head-high and under surf conditions for years. Without doubt the most user friendly member of the Rocket family, the Rocket Wide has been squished down into a shorter and wider outline for maximum performance in the least inspiring of conditions.

Compared to the Rocket 9 the Rocket Wide has a wider tail block to glide over mush and is wider under the chest and in the nose for improved paddle power and early wave entry.

The Gudauskas brothers got their heads together with Channel Islands' Mike Andrews to create the Rocket 9 so it was natural to get back in the shaping bay with Mike to work on this small wave "Cadillac". The result is a fantastic little board which excels in mediocre surf and makes a great "daily driver" for guys and girls who regularly surf beachbreak style waves or cruisy style points and mellower walling waves.

This clever little board is way more than a simple groveller, its got heaps more performance and just seems to "take off" and glide as soon as soon as you pop to your feet. This is definitely the board to rekindle your surfing stoke even if the waves are below waist high and not particularly inspiring.

With the five fin setup you can choose between thrusters, quads, twin + trailer and Dane has even ridden it as a straight twin so you can experiment with these different fin options to find your magic combo. Advanced surfers will ride the Rocket Wide 2 to 4" shorter than their height.

Spine-Tek technology is the result of a Channel Islands and Shapers Australia collaboration with the aim to further enhance the flex response of modern surfboards. Spine-Tek features a precision engineered spine/stringer made from a unique blend of fibreglass and resin which replaces the original wooden stringer. This revolutionary tech is based on the principles of elastic energy; the board flexes under pressure and then rapidly returns to its original rocker-line. The speed of this response is what gives your surfboard that 'electric', zingy feel which remains for the life of the board. Watch the video below for a full technology breakdown from Britt Merrick.

Transatlantic surfboard purchase
I just received my new 5-10” Channel Islands Rocket Wide spine-tek today. I live in the Outer Banks, NC (USA) surf region. I am highly confident this board will perform well in just about any type of surf we get around this area. I am very please with the service provided by the staff at Boardshop. I look forward to purchasing more boards from them in the future. Cheers

Boardshop folks are real consultants
Great service, super fast delivery. Needed a groveller that would work in waves shoulder/head high on the Maldives so Rocket Wide was a safe bet - fast board, forgiven and still enough performance

Great first shortboard
After some pretty clear and concise advice from Fraser I opted for a 6'2 version of this. Been for two surfs at the wave Bristol on it and once your up and riding it absolutely flies ! I underestimated how much harder it would be popping up on a board a foot shorter than I'm used to but practice makes perfect. It paddles really well and once your up and riding it goes from rail to rail really easily flowing in out of turns generating speed. I've only ridden as a quad and will stick with that for now. Thanks for the good advice and great service

5 8 rocket wide
in 5.8 spine tek,,, 2 plus one AM the board is totally different, crazy speed and paddle. very strong on the rail as it gains speed. flow and radical. it likes clean surf just overhead. An amazing board to bring your surf to a new level. for more verticality have to change board. tried in indo and canarias.

Small wave performer!!!
Bought the spine tek 5'7 and very impressed with it. Although the board can grovel its best used as a good small wave performer so sits between your grovel board and HPSB. (Would surf up to a little overhead but best around waist to head)
Gets into waves so easy probably even better than my Lost PJ. The EPS makes it very lively and board has heaps of drive. The highlight of this board is how fast it is in and out of turns. A real flow board.
No real negatives except I haven't noticed the difference to what the spine makes.
Its ok as a thruster but really comes alive with 2 plus 1 trailer. Not tried as quad yet as loving the 2 plus 1 at the mo.
Stoked, thanks Boardshop - Board was packed super well and arrived next day! :)

excellent Board; excellent service
Surfed this at bundoran after returning from Oman for a quick break. Board arrived in two days; mint condition and surfs perfectly. Purchased 5 11 and was worried about volume being too high (waves in oman can be gutless some of the time; only some) but felt like I was surfing my normal performance board 29ltrs; I am 85kg. Fast and responsive and a great paddler; definitely not a grovler as easily performed in overhead this weekend.. best smaller wave board I have had; and as always equally best service from Boardshop!

fantastic groveller
I bought my 5'9 in spine tek. it is super fast and extremely lively under foot. I have only ridden it as a thruster in large performer fins so far which really goes well. I'm going to try it with a AM performance core twin fin plus trailer as it has received amazing reviews as a twinny as well. this board is HIGHLY recommended.

Good Board
Had a couple of surfs on the south coast. One in shoulder/head high messy waves as a truster, and then in just over knee high, clean, with the MR Twin+ trailer. The board (in Spine-Tek) was fast, got into waves well and easy to turn. Will now my go to board for waves in this range as well as being the best looking board I own. Very Happy. Many thanks to Ian and all at Boardshop for Input and great service.
