Description

TheChannel Islands Average Joe surfboard by Al Merrick has been developed to make surfing even more fun! The Average Joe is for surfer's of all abilities, its designed to increase your wave count and with it's forgiving template generally make your session more fun. The idea is that any surfer can by a surfboard from the Channel Island range from the seasoned pro to an Average Joe! Most people are familiar with the Biscuit (one of the best boards ever created in our opinion!) the Average Joe is an extension of this board. Its packed with volume through the middle of the board to make paddling and wave catching a breeze, has enough volume in the nose to make your take off simple and just the right amount of tail lift to mean you can still push it through turns. This surfboard works as a first time shortboard for someone coming off a mini mal or fat shortboard, or as an addition to the quiver of the surfer lacking that small wave weapon. You're not going to get this baby vertical on every wave but you will be guaranteed fun! It is recommended to ride this board 2-8" shorter than your height. We're offering the AJ in FCS or Futures in almost all sizes, plus custom orders are always available just drop us a line for details.

"The driving force behind Channel Islands Surfboards is the demand on design created by the world's greatest surfers, allowing for the highest performance surfing possible. To provide the most dedicated surfers with the most advanced, performance designs is my passion" - Al Merrick, Designer/Shaper

Don't forget you can also order a customised version of this board choosing your exact dims, fin set up and fin system, check out our customiser service at Boardshop right now. All you need to do is pump in the details and pay a £100 deposit with the balance due when we send you the board, average build time is 6-8 weeks. Also quite a few of the chaps here surf this board, or have surfed it plus we talk to lots of surfers and take on their feedback so we are here to chat about this or any other board, just give us a call on (44) 01243 674250

Boardshop is stoked to be a key partner for Channel Islands surfboards across Europe and beyond. The staff here have surfed pretty much every board in the range at some time or another and we speak to surfers from all over the world and get their feedback on how the boards perform in all sorts of conditions so we're well placed to talk about all aspects of Channel Islands surfboards. Channel Islands Average Joe 5’9”
The Average Joe is a great board for South Coast conditions. Handles the slop really well & copes ok with a bit of size. Genuinely makes the best of poor surf. Personally I prefer it to any of the Firewire groveller range & find it more versatile. This is my second Joe now & would recommend one to anyone looking for a groveller type board. I’m 5’7, 13 stone with intermediate/advanced ability for reference.
Professional service & communication from the team at board shop too! Special thanks to Ian

WOW what a board!
This is just fantastic. I was hunting for a new board for a while and when speaking to the chaps at Boardshop they narrowed my needs down to a couple of choices. Took this baby out for a ride all last weekend and it just performed soooooo well. Easy to paddle, super stable on the pop and drop and incredibly response (could turn on a dime). Already taken my surfing to the next level and gave me such a massive grin after each session. Highly recommend this board and the first class service at Boardshop (THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH GUYS!!!). I'm 5'11" and weigh 69kg and this was a great size/volume.

Absolutely does what is says on the tin... Average Joe,
Absolutely does what is says on the tin... Average Joe, i.e. for the surfer who doesn't get in the water as often as liked and wants to be able to enjoy it when he does. I bought this board for surfing in Biarritz France during the summer, which means it needs to be able to perform in 1 ft mush to nice lined up 5-6 ft sets. On top you have to compete with super groms shredding and long boarders who can catch anything plus dodge the 100 tourists who are always in the way. Perfect board for the Job. I am riding a 5'5" 33lt (I am 180cm 73kg) and this is plenty of board, don't get scared in to going to big as it will just skim across the top of the water. BOARDSHOP - service was exceptional, ordered Friday and it was at my door Tuesday. Thx

First of all, thanks for the great service and big
First of all, thanks for the great service and big help from Ian!5 ft 9 Average Joe arrived very quick and in mint condition with a nice leash and footpad! It took me quite a while until i could try it out. But finally i could make it to Portugal for a few days and it was top! I was a little afraid comming down from a 6ft 9 funboard but it was not a problem at all even though i would still consider myself as a beginner. The surf wasn´t big the whole week but catching small waves was not an issue at all. Also duckdiving is not big deal as it was with the other board :) I am really looking forward to france in a few weeks to test it for a longer time! Thanks again to Ian and Boardshop for hooking me up with that great board!
