Whats New At Boardshop Autumn 2019

Thank goodness for that, the flat summer landscape is transformed into a grey, rainy and dark one, but there are waves…

The run of early autumn swell has seen the team here at Boardshop back on form and surfing regularly again, so who’s been surfing what?

Roger has picked up a Harley Ingelby Moe mid length in the all new Thunderbolt construction which has to be surfed to be believed, other than that he’s leafing through his 30+ boards quiver deciding which to surf next!

Harley Ingleby Moe

Ian has just picked up a Slater Designs No Brainer and Form Flow Stik pro amongst others Matt has been putting the new Phil Grace 2BU through its paces, that looks like a seriously fun board.

New boy no.1 Ryan is on a Sharp Eye Modern 2

The other new boy (no.2) Rich needs educating he’s surfing tiny short boards far too well, he’s picked a Pyzel Phantom, that board flies under the feet of a decent surfer.

Clive and Chef are basically married to their Phipps One Bad Eggs they’ve had custom made, and who can blame them, such a brilliant board.

Surfboards

New from Firewire this Autumn is the Hydroshort, a take down of the incredibly popular Hydronaut step up. So far feedback has been excellent, good paddler, great speed and smooth to surf off the soft squash tail.

The Rob Machado model, the Seaside is as popular as ever and on the horizon is the Seaside & Beyond mid length, watch this space it’s going to be amazing.

Also, on the way is the performance shortboard the Houdini and the new El Tomo Fish. Almost too much to look forward to! Mark Phipps has added a Big Bad Egg and Mini Bad Egg to compliment the near legendary One Bad Egg.

Custom OBE

These give the option to get the essence of the OBE but in a beefed up or paired down version. We expect these two models to go nuts over the next few months.

The Channel Islands Happy in the unrivalled Spinetek construction has been a smash hit in the performance category. The responsiveness and speed of this construction paired with a sublime shape and set up has produced a board that can handle serious juice, one customer who’d just surfed it at a serious slab described it as incredible with no upper limit in terms of size or power, he described it as a step up without the limitations you’d normally expect with that kind of board, meaning you can surf it at your usual shortboard length and volume without needing to add extra inches.

The Ultra Joe also continues to be a very popular performance hybrid choice.

In other board news we’ve just seen the new Lib Tech X Lost colab, the Sword Fish, it’s going to be the go to choice of Fish style board for a lot of people.

The Pukas Lazy Link is a very user-friendly option too and will soon be available in Lost’s Carbon Wrap update, Diamond wrap. We also hear there’s a new Pyzel epoxy construction on the way, given the success of the Gremlin, Phantom, Ghost and Astro Pop this can only be another step in Pyzel’s inevitable move to world domination!

Pukas Lazy Link

Last but not least in this board round up is the Thunderbolt range of longboards featuring cutting edge tech with shapes from Ben Skinner, CJ Nelson, and Harley Ingleby.

Longboards that weigh the same as a toothpick shortboard and surf like longboards have never surfed before, incredible stuff. If you haven’t seen the videos of Harley Ingleby surfing them then look them up, they’re insane.

Don’t forget our custom order surfboard service is open 24/7 and you can trade in any old board against a new one, and even by on 0% finance

Good stuff

Fu wax, it’s actually a thing…we weren’t convinced wax could be worth £5 a block but it actually is! Great coverage, unrivalled grip and you don’t need very much.

Fu Wax

After having been unavailable for ages we’ve managed to secure a shipment of the Finsout tool.

Yes, we know a fair few of you will laugh and say it’s totally unnecessary but it’s an essential for a lot of surfers, the FCS II fin system is great but it can be tough/painful removing fins and this handy little product totally takes the pain away.

Fins Out Tool

The guys behind Finsout have now shifted to a fully recycled and recyclable plastic production and the cool little box is also made from recycled paper. Available in Black and now Blue and Pink as well it’s a winner.

Winter Rubber

Temperatures are dropping and it’s time to invest in rubber that will maximise your surf time and performance.

We don’t stock every brand, or even every model of wettie that each wetsuit company does, we hand pick the suits we think are best in terms of value, performance and durability.

Don’t forget we’re the good guys in the wetsuit world, no one else offers a FREE extened warranty like we do. So, this winter we’ve focused on Xcel, Rip Curl, O’Neill, Vissla and Billabong wetsuits, boots, gloves and hoods.

Wetsuit Voucher

Each model has been selected for its specific attributes so you can be confident they’ll get the job done.

Value for money – the winner hands down is the O’Neill Epic range, features you’d expect in a far more expensive suit and no holds on stretch, comfort, flexibility and warmth. In standard chest zip and the new hooded version for this winter you’ll be toastie warm and raring to go. There are specific models for men, ladies and kids.

O'Neill Epic

Warmth – it’s hard to beat a hooded suit if you’re living somewhere where water temps dip below 7 or 8 degrees. Everyone here at Boardshop rates the Vissla 7 seas suit in the various hooded versions.

Vissla 7 seas Hooded

Gone are the days or super heavy hooded suits that you could barely move in, the Vissla 7 Seas, 7 Seas 50/50 and North Seas suits offer incredible warmth in a suit that is both lightweight and flexible.

Flexibility – it’s a tie between the Rip Curl E Bomb zip free and the O’Neill Hyperfreak Comp zip free.

Rip Curl E-Bomb

Both these suits are designed for the surfer who never stops paddling wants every wave and doesn’t want the suit to hold him or her back in anyway.

O'Neill HyperFreak

Losing the zip inevitably gives improved movement and flexibility, wearing on of these suits in a 5/3mm feels like wearing most other suits in a 3/2mm set up. They’re still plenty warm enough for most in the winter too

Other suits worth a mention are the new Xcel Infiniti Ltd Edition, an update on the evergreen Infiniti range and if money is no object the Rip Curl Heatseeker zip free, a massive step forward in wetsuit tech.
